The idea behind letting people from each country compete is 100% in line with the spirit of the Olympic movement and has always been part of the sport. I am in favor of more randos from random counties competing. It is important for them and for their tiny nations. It is what the Olympics is about. It has nothing to do with the American DEI movement of the last 10 years. It is part of the original Olympic ideal.
BUT NOT IN THIS KIND OF RACE. It also can't be the indoor 400m because that doesn't have lanes either! That would be chaos with a doofus cutting in and messing up the real race. It needs to be in the throws, jumps, or true sprints where they can't ruin the race for anyone else.
I think you should get lapped out in indoor races. In draft legal triathlon, the bike courses are often 5k loops for a 20k or 40k ride & if you swim towards the back & get caught on the bike you get pulled from the race so it only happens one time where people have to pass you.

That's fine on a 5k course where everyone is spread out, but if you start yanking lapped runners on an indoor track you could easily have some collisions.
This guy would legitimately be lucky to win anything at a high school invitational made up of schools under 100 students. I'm all for trying to spread the sport, but at some point common sense has to come into play.
I’m not saying you guys are Dicks, but that's what Olympic/worlds are about: the feel- good story of a dude from a small country training by himself between shifts as a janitor with a dream. Finally made it with his whole village behind him, donating pennies in a hat... .
You can race without qualifying. Every country has one free spot for women and men. My country sent 2 runners to 400m for free.
Gonna make a wild guess here that the Tal!ban chose not to send any women to the championships despite being allowed to.
Gotta say though, it's nice seeing this and realizing I'd be in contention for a national title somewhere despite being a relatively mediocre hobbyjogger
