What in the world did I just watch? How did he make it? How did he not get out of the way??

9:37 finishing time is crazy
Why didn’t he move out of the way..
I don’t care that much if they want to let him race, but get out of the way when the real race is lapping you
Yep, that's silly.
If you're going to let someone from Afghanistan compete, make it in a sprint or something you can't impede the other runners.
I was fuming watching this, a world championship field had their race potentially destroyed by a guy who probably ran outside 9 mins. When are the IAAF going to get on top of this, this isn't a park run or an Olympic Marathon. utterly ridiculous
Here you see the priorities. For someone up there virtue signalling is more important than who wins the WC race.
He was from Afghanistan so it was a 'charity' place. He should have moved out. Kerr nearly pushed him off the track.
Here are his career bests (note all from 2011-2015)
HOW THE HELL DID HE QUALIFY
3000 Metres 9:30.15
3000 Metres Short Track 9:30.15
10,000 Metres 34:39.91
Half Marathon 1:13:16
Marathon 2:51:33
You can race without qualifying. Every country has one free spot for women and men. My country sent 2 runners to 400m for free.
They allow every country to send one unqualified athlete in the Olympics too. But I’m almost certain I remember it being limited to events where you would not impact the results (like 100m which is run in lanes, or marathon where they’d be dropped within the first half mile).
Distance events where it interferes like the 3000 should have standards. let this guy run the 400 and we wouldn’t be talking about it.
DEI nonsense is lowering standards for all.
The women never do - why should he?
Yeah that’s not much faster than my 8th grade son. There’s no way that guy should have been out there.
If he has no experience, it's better he sticks to the rails.
Having him trying to see who's coming and going and trying avoid them, is the worst strategy.
They need a big hook that pulls them off the track
The fact that some people posting here could actually avoid getting last in that race is crazy
That's a solid half. Dude is severely underperforming at the other distances.
Being able to run a 1:13 half does not equate to being able to run a 3k at the speed of the world’s best

Clearly not implying it is, but it is significantly better than it his other times
