On another note, in the current era, PE teachers have the unthankful job of getting the least active generation ever to get up and move. They have to work with students who can't even jump-rope, walk down a balance beam, or do many of the basic skills (skipping, shooting a lay-up, etc.).
I can hardly think of a more important job, to be honest. And if I were PE teacher, I would be on a mission to instill a love of movement, strength, balance, flexibility, teamwork, toughness, competitiveness, and fair-play in all my students. That actually sounds like a pretty awesome job to me.
