I know it's not PC to talk about weight, but a) it obviously it matters in running while b) eating disorders are real and a serious problem.

Pressure points to promote/increase blood flow. Japanese often do this.
I have SEEN many skinny male runners like this. In fact, the high school cross country SCENE features a lot of very frail looking young men with reedy arms.

Man, this dude is on a running message board, reviewing the elite performance of a runner that needed and converted stupid amounts of nutrition in training and the race into a high octane output. and we're shi tting on him because.....he skips shoulders, chest and back day with the gym bros?
Save your concern for the multitude of popular athletes with stress fractures that everyone gives such a free pass for "hard luck" and "over training" to. that's malnourishment hidden in plain sight.

Not gonna engage much in speculation about weight, as I'm just not that interested. Yes, he appears to be quite skinny, as do most people running 2:06.
But I did check out Hirabayashi's IAAF page - this guy just turned 21 in December, and has listed PR's of 14:00 / 27:55 / 63:02 / 2:06:18. I'm surprised this performance isn't getting more coverage, 2:06 at age 21 seems like a massive performance; with any improvement over the next few years this guy could be a global contender. Just for reference, Kiyoto is about 6 months younger than Nico Young.
Kissa was a close second place; he's 35 and ran 2:04:48 NR for Uganda two years ago in Hamburg.

On average, people are quite skinnier in Japan. They eat healthier than Americans.
He's an ectonorph, clearly. Some people are built differently. The average north American man should not strive for this because it would lead to poor performance and an eating disorder as it's unrealistic for most. Achieving your best performance culminates in doing what's best for your own body, not trying to emulate an outlier of a physical specimen. But yes, impressive times at that age for the Japanrse guy here. He has potential.
Weren't Shorter and Rodgers skinny like this? Pretty much all of the old distance guys from the 70s/80s were very light for their frames. How else were they going to run 2:08 back then?
