Many of us were saying this a long time ago, but for you it's a sudden awakening, I guess.

It's doubtful that those jobs such as analysts will truly be replaced. What has happened over the years is that technical jobs start to involve more fluff (pointless meetings, internal politics, compliance, etc.).

This has happened with software engineering, for example. Most workers with software engineer title are only spending 10% of their time designing and implementing software; the other 90% is effectively product management, customer support, giving status updates, clicking through emails of false-positive alerts from production systems, clicking buttons to rerun flaky build and release pipelines, etc.

So, if in one year most of these video/design jobs are still around and AI isn't actively replacing all lawyers, finance workers and data analysts, will you admit that YOU'RE the one who doesn't know sh*t? Or will you just move the goalposts? "Any day now, any day now..."

This is what's funny to me, these people think there is some type of sophistication to them by telling us AI is real. It's like saying in 2005 that E-commerce is a real thing and here to stay.

AI is all the rage and for good reason. It is evolving how we will do business in many industries.

I'll go on record and say that AI will be fully capable of replacing those career within 12 months. All of them.

Professional associations like the ABA will throw up all sorts of roadblocks to "protect the profession" but that's just be re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Other careers that don't have a mafia-like professional association protecting them will be axed swiftly.

AI isn’t as good as you make it seem. For example, Sora can make great B roll footage when you just want a drone shot. But what if you wanted to make a customer testimonial video? You still need to fly out to the customers location, plan the script, get talented videographers and lighting equipment and editors. Not to mention the intangible aspects of a video that tells a story and communicates the exact message that your company wants to convey to other customers.

you cant write a prompt in sora that says “make a customer testimonial video of X customer and make it look like it’s that person talking.” It’s also not iterative yet. For example if you feed it a prompt and it doesn’t give you what you want, you can’t control it and modify it if you were say, a highly skilled after effects specialist.

the only thing that sora replaces is stock footage that you might purchase on shutterstock.

You're totally missing the big picture.

I agree that certain types of video projects still require a human team to produce - for now.

But look at the rate of advancement in the last year. in 2023, AI-generated videos were hilariously bad. Now, they're scary good. In terms of making AI videos indistinguishable from real videos, we're already 99% there.

Given the way AI models are built + the current rate of advancement, it's very likely that we'll achieve 100% in just a few months.

To your example of testimonials: If I'm a business owner and want to do a video case study on client, and AI can write the script and make the video perfectly, for free - why would I pay a production agency $1000s to do it?

The client gives me permission to use their name and likeness, approves some canned lines, I give the prompt to AI and it generates an inspiring script + video in seconds.

As a kid in the 1970s, I would go to the Boston Museum of Science. You could play a game of tic tac toe against a computer. The computer took up a room that was about the size of a walk in closet in a McMansion. On my 13th birthday, I got an Apple IIe, which had more computing power in a relatively small box than the tic tac toe computer would have had in a 50k sq ft warehouse. The same doomsday stories were all over the place about computers taking over the world.

All that has happened with AI is a merger of search engine technology and other computer functions like graphics and LLMs. It is a very impressive advance, but it is in no way intelligent like a human is. This is clear because the big bug that AI has is hallucinations. Hallucinations occur in AI because AI is not actually intelligent. AI creates hallucinations because it is not actually intelligent and does not really understand anything. AI is just a tool that is capable of giving an answer. AI has no capacity to determine whether the answer is correct. That technology does not exist. And that is why AI will not be wiping out entire sectors of employment any time in the near (or distant) future.

You're wrong. This is a cope. Hallucinations are fixable, but that's beside the point. What matters is what AI is capable of doing, not what bugs it might have.

Case in point - this morning, I had an idea for a simple fitness app. I told GPT-4 in plain English what I wanted it to do and it wrote the code for me and all I had to do was deploy it. No coding required.

Let me repeat - it wrote the code and created the app for me.

Hallucinations are red herring. Focus on what it can do, and what that implies for jobs, people and society.

What's going to blow your mind is when you realize students are starting to use Chat GPT to write their assignments and there is no way to check to see if they did so or not (outside of knowing the students personally). Also, teachers are using chat GPT to write lesson plans, and comments for report cards. Coaches are using it to write practice plans. Originality, what's left of it, is on the doorstep of extinction.
