It was set in Pretoria, which is 1300m above sea level. Michael Johnson set his same record at that level. It’s obviously an amazing time, but the real record is still Wayde’s. Fun fact , almost the entire country of South Africa is on a plateau , which is why anybody living from a city like Durban to JHB 600 - 1600 meters above sea level.
I don't think people understand how good this is. He is now faster than Bolt, WVN, and MJ.
300 time is more closely correlated with 200 time for most sprinters, especially 100/200 sprinters. Blake ran 30.9 before he ran 19.2, so it seems pretty likely that Tebogo runs 19.2/9.6 this year, and I wouldn't be shocked to see him run sub 44 this year too.
Hey dear, don't you think if he beats Van Niekerk's 300m WR then this puts him in the ballpark of the 400m WR as well you know??? A guy like Tobogo has a very long and powerful stride and seems to maintain form and biomechanics very well with great endurance. The way he came down the home straight with that biomechanics mirrors Van Niekerk's at Rio 2016 400m final!!!!
Should we tell the world that 100m is the wrong event for him in the foreseeable future?
Time to double 200m/400m like Michael Johnson? I think Tobogo could be the first man to go under 42s!

I think it's pretty obvious that 400 would be a better event than 100 for him but I'm more curious if he can eventually be the promised one to pull off an individual triple at a championship
If L Tebogo can sprint sub-70 600 yards outdoors, he will be a sub-43.50 f.a.t. 400m man this summer.
Exactly my sentiment too. I mean he just beat Van Niekerk's 300m WR by a lot, so it makes sense he would be the first man under 43 this summer and under 42 in a few years time. He is still only 21!
Nah the energy systems for 100m, 200m, and, 200m and especially 400m are vastly different. Impossible to unite them all in one human body!!! Unless the field of competitors are all very poor athletes or all had an off day at the same time.

Two hundred meters and 400m double is rare, not rare because sub-20 200m and sub-44 400m athletes are rare. Rare because of Olympic and W.C. schedules. I have posted for years on here advocating T&F to spread out over two more days. With a couple more days, numerous double opportunities would be practical. 2024 Olympic schedule has 200m and 400m overlapping.

Really? I thought as long as the finals don't overlap it should be fine right? Heats and semis overlapping is fine though. It should be doable. Tobogo should really do the 200m and 400m in Paris. The 400m has backslided in recent years with athletes not progressing and stagnating. The 400m WR is really weak in my view.
