I hope he does but that Germa guy from Ethiopia is pretty fast. So is Kerr. Its all about position with 3 laps to go.
Yeah Girma is awesome but from what we’ve seen so far this season, I don’t think he can run away from Nuguse or beat him in a kick in a championship 3k. I think Kerr is scary if he should race the 3k, and Barega is the biggest East African threat.
If Girma were in his WR shape I'd have him as the slight favorite but as it stands right now it'd be really close between Nuguse and Kerr in both a fast and slow race, I don't think Girma can outkick those two
Thats why I said position with 3 laps to go. Germa has to have the lead, hammer and sprint the straights to make passing more difficult. Nuguse just cant hesitate when he makes his committment but his wind up is slower than Kerrs. If Kerr is behind Nguse it'll be tough for him to pass from that far out. If Kerr is in front of Nguse, he can hold him off if less than 300.
Best chance for Nuguse is to keep it honest and be ok if he has to front run. I dont think he will outkick Kerr over the last 300 if he doesnt have the lead already.
Is it unpopular that I don’t really care if nuguse wins world indoors? His biggest competitor won’t be there and his year will be defined by the Olympics
When does Kerr have to confirm for World Indoors. I thought it was this week some time?
I'd love to see him and Nuguse race a 3000m. Girma doesn't seem to be in great shape this year compared to last year (4:51 for 2000m, 7:29 for 3000m). Barega is the world leader with 7:25. But apparently Kerr's 2-mile converts to 7:24, which is nuts. I never thought I'd see that happen.

It is actually very popular, as most people in the US only care about the Olympics.
It is probably unpopular on this site because by definition most visitors coming to LetsRun in February care about races other than the Olympics. Most also don’t stop caring about races when one potential competitor is injured and can’t participate, as long as the overall competition is good, which it should be. It would be great if Ingebrigtsen were healthy and could be there, but injury is part of sports. Plus he didn’t even win the 1500 at world indoors last year so his absence in the 3000 does not somehow delegitimize the race.
Maybe back in 2020 but Kerr has his BMI down to like a 5 these days! Absolute beast when he's this light! Wish Jakob wasn't hurt because I think this Kerr could wipe the floor against the best the Norwegian slow twitch, slow foot speed, narcissist could run even at his "fastest". ...In fact I bet it's ole Jakob eating donuts and getting a puffy in the face and carrying more jelly roll than he ever has. Love to see him pop back into racing right now so we could watch him lose and maybe he could get some humility.

Agree, it’s all about positioning. goose runs too often in lane 2 on the turns. he needs to stick to rail, let others lead, be decisive when he goes to the front, and pull a Mo Farah over the last 500m

You realize that the "slow twitch, slow foot speed narcissist" last year ran a 2 mile time which equals sub 7:20 in the 3000m?

7:26-low
That would make more sense. How are these conversions worked out?
