the idea is somewhat appealing but I’m not certain how practical it would be to implement when you book (and pay) in advance. I suppose you could charge everyone the same base fare and there could be a surcharge for each pound above a certain amount…. But for passengers not checking bags I guess you’d have to weigh them at the gate. possibly obese people would avoid airlines implement the policy and those airlines would subsequently save money on fuel

I've been a long proponent of this.

The economics of Ozempic and Wegovy should tell you you are wrong on that.

Additionally, I'd like to see the heavier passengers seated closer to the aisle so the plane is not too tipsy, and evenly distributed on both sides of the aisle so the pilot doesn't have to correct for a lean to one side.

I think airline passengers should be based on weight. Think about it, for someone with dwarfism a typical economy seat is like ultra-first class. On the other hand, obese people probably feel like they're in economy class in the largest of first-class seats. Let's not get into how many calories compared to a normal meal the food would be for a small person versus a large person.

So, I say charge people based on weight, but make the charge inversely proportional to the passenger's weight.

Dwarfs can be stored in he overhead bin.

Guess i made a little mistake

I once saw two passengers that were so large that they paged the flight attendant and were pointing to something between them. I couldn't tell if they were saying they couldn't lower the arm rest (not enough room) or if it was something having to do with the seatbelts, but the flight attendant solved the problem by reassigning one of their seats.
