And I’d like to see lower taxes and better air quality. Unfortunately, none of this is happening. Get off the OAC jock. Even with their segregated heat, the guy got destroyed in Boston. What’s with the Coffee Club obsession fanboys?
In the discussion of Katir and Nordas and big leaps, why does nobody mention Nuguse?
To go from 3:53 to 3:43 in the mile in one year at 24, after improving by four seconds in the previous 3 years, is pretty crazy
He ran 3:33.2 with a big kick in 2023 which is worth a smidge under 3:50 for the mile actually, so it’s more like a 6-second jump. Nuguse’s battles with injuries are pretty well-known. He also had well-known solo/championship performances that hinted at more potential in a fast race (NCAA titles, 3:34 in a prelim, 7:38 solo, 3:35 with 1:49 last 800). So that along with his academic focus at Notre Dame, move to altitude, more strenuous training are where people give him the benefit of the doubt.

More accurately 3:50 to 3:44 over 12 months if you’re rounding thing. But at age 23, 7 months he also ran 3:47.38 with a 25.9 last 200. So his key improvements started earlier. In his 3:33.2, he was also solo the last 450 meters. He probably could’ve run faster with competition as was noted at the time. He was on a big win streak to close 2022 and then early 2023 he was even better.
