Wowsers. So at least 6 Ethiopian women have run under 4:00 this early in the year (in last couple of days actually) and have world leading 1500m times. Yep. They are loaded.
We are fat friendly here in the US. Fat women are embraced like never before. Coaches have to lie to their athletes about their poor eating habits and pretend they don’t see what they see…as long as fatty feels good about herself. We have no chance unless our diet only consists of tainted burritos.

Those 3 Ethiopians are nearly the same age. Mesesha turned 23 a couple of weeks ago, Hailu turns 23 soon and Welteji will be 22 in a couple of months.
Haylom is 18. Nelly Chepchirchir of Kenya is 20.
It almost makes you wonder why any American female is prioritizing the 1500 now, although Wiley did come within one second of Mesesha in that Diamond League race last September.
Mesesha and Hailu race nearly the identical schedule. I've noted that previously but I didn't check the tagalong numbers until today. They have already faced each other 16 times at 1500 plus the recent mile in Ostrava. Hailu leads that series 11-6.
Welteji is 8-2 versus Mesesha but only 2-6 against Hailu.
Haylom is 3-2 against Mesesha, 0-4 versus Hailu and 1-5 facing Welteji.
Hailu didn't race the 1500 in Budapest. She ran 5000 and was 7th. Mesesha took her place in the 1500 and didn't advance out of the slower semifinal heat. That's why there was actually greater Ethiopian strength at 1500 than it appeared exiting 2023. Haylom wasn't ready to contend. The current 4th in the world Hailu wasn't in the worlds 1500.
Obviously Tsegay is huge at that distance also but seldom visits anymore.
Today we are back at the iconic Legatafo Track in Addis Ababa for a 5x1500m Workout (4min recovery). Gudaf Tsegay and Lemlem Hailu recently placed 1st in the...
a lot of posts here referencing EPO yet very few ethiopians are ever busted for drugs. seems like a lot of people are getting mixed up with their kenyan neighbours. completely different cultures, people, and attitudes towards cheating.

As opposed to what? Not giving it a shot? The 5k and 10k are just as stacked.
Giving up is silly. I’d rather they do their best with whatever they’ve got.
