Tuohy’s HS 3200 Record Broken!! In February!

Congrats to her. She is having a great year.

February is no big deal. I would have been impressed in January.

An earlier thread asked how she ranked nationally, but someone was scolded by I.Rex (and posts were even deleted) when comparing her times to the previous record holder, Tuohy. (Although what may have gotten the posts removed were suggesting she is another “generational talent”, which may have implied a backhanded swipe. Not only that, the posting that really may have been “offensive” to a particular contingent, was the comment about this new “generational talent” being founded using the Valby Training Protocol.

It is confirmed now, she is another “generational talent”, I guess. And good on you rbtrackfan, for owning it.

She's racing the Millrose Games High School Girls Mile next week at the Armory... what do we think her 9:45 translates to? Could we see a sub-4:40 at Millrose?

Show some respect to Leachman. The thread title omits her name. Yes, Tuohy was a phenom, but Leachman broke her record. Say the name Elizabeth Leachman.

Katelyn was a part of a three times National Champion cross country team and was a 4 time NCAA individual champion. Not sure what you mean by dodging the competition there

Great run by Leachmam, but Cain ran 9:39 for two miles. So tired of people acting like mile v 1600 and 2mile v 3200 are separate records

Of course there is. Whether you like it or not, the conversions are not records. Take it up with Usatf, track and field news and National Federation of HS Athletics.

This was supposed to be a training run for Millrose. Her coaches said she was smiling and having a good time. She ran a 2:13 for her first 800 since junior high school, 20-30 minutes after finishing the 3200.

Your argument makes sense if we are talking about 1500m v mile or 3k v 2 mile, but to claim that the mile and the 1600m are different events is being intentionally dense.

Do you know what her splits were in the 3200? I can't find the meet or the actual race results.

It even holds for 1600 and mile, especially if someone runs only the 1600, as then they haven't completed a mile.

To be fair, I consider 1600/ mile and 3200/2 mile to be equivalent for my own purposes. I just realized they are not for records.

In this case, Cain's by all logic ought to be the record, because you cannot pass two miles in 9:39 without running 3200m in less than 9:39, so you cannot have a 9:47 or 9:45 3200m record when someone's run 2M in 9:39.

I agree. It has always been an issue for me. My State's high school mile record is faster than the 1600 record. The longer event should count with doing any conversion.
