Hehir is in the middle of residency with three young children. No indication from him until a week ago or so when he announced he was running the trials. Apparently, he took quite a bit of time off from training before qualifying for the trials at the McCurdy Micro Marathon, I believe it was. "Couch to Qualifier in 10 weeks" or something I think he said? I'm too lazy to go double check but that's the gist of it.
Hehir was always a favorite of mine from the last few Olympic cycles. It's rare to see a guy with a full-time job and family reaching the heights he did. Always just seemed like a down to earth, standup guy who worked his ass off for what he got. The sport will miss him when he retires but I'm sure he'll make a damn good anesthesiologist.

I don't get this. Not everyone is a contender and these guys haven't shown any tremendous fitness in the last few months to support a top finish.
I haven’t been talking about them because this is 2024 not 2020. Neither of them has any race results in the last 2 years that suggest they are contenders.
unfortunately, they have little chance to make it. Tho PRs are great, and Marty has broke 209, he's slammed with work and family. He's a tough nut though so he'll still compete and run well... no doubt

I get it tho. He'll make truckloads of money and ostensibly help people as an anesthesiologist.
Or as a world top 1000/US top 100 runner he can get free entry to some races, win $500 here and there at smaller races, maybe even finish top American at Boston/Chicago/NYC if the field is weak enough
Neither has done anything in the past 18 months to make you think they'll be contending for top 3. Go back to 2021 and I'd be thinking differently, but there has been a bit of a decline since then while a lot of other people have elevated themselves.
It you follow NCAA and the marathon results you would know how they are. Don’t speak for everyone here
Yeah, who are they for the remaining 99% of us.
Hate to tell you but 99% of everyone out there has no idea who any of the runners are, including Centro, Houlihan, Mu, Valby, Rupp etc. Its all relative. And frankly no one cares if you don't know Hehir or Bennie. We don't care who you know.
