Do Mantz and Young take caffeine?

Not sure if a troll post, but Mormons definitely can have caffeine. Specifically they are supposed to avoid coffee, black tea, and green tea. It is speculated among some that this will go away at some point, but it hasn’t yet and it doesn’t seem imminent under current leadership.

Utah has soda shops selling flavored Diet Coke like Seattle has Starbucks.

Historically caffeine in all forms was frowned upon in Mormonism. Only in the last 20ish years has that started to shift. There are some Mormons who still take the no coffee/tea rule to its logical end and avoid caffeine altogether, but most have no qualms ingesting it in holier forms than drinks served at the devil's temperature.

That said, who knows where Mantz and Young stand on it. Mantz doesn't run Sundays, which puts him a little more to the extreme side of Mormonism. He may also be on the extreme side regarding caffeine.

Speaking personally, I did not take caffeine for racing/workouts for a long time because I was one of those uber Mormons for a long time. Not until my late-20s. It would not surprise me in the least to find out Eyestone's guys are in the same boat.

There's a native, non potent species of Ephedra that was supposedly used as a substitute. It is now included in some energy drink formulations so they can legally say "Ephedra"

It used to be that the LDS church forbid the drinking of hot caffeinated drinks which was coffee and tea. Even drinking Pepsi and Coca-Cola was frowned upon. Then something happened and now it's ok to drink Pepsi and Coca-Cola. Coffee and tea are still a no-no.

This is good to know, about 15 years ago I saw Andy Reid in a breakfast place and he ordered a Coke (it could have been a Diet Coke). You answered two questions/thoughts that I had:

(1) I thought Mormons couldn’t drink caffeinated drinks;

(2) Why is he having Coke instead of coffee with his breakfast at 8:00 a.m.?

There’s no logic in religions, you know that, right?

I only use caffeine for racing. Not for religious reasons, but because I've seen some people get their diet coke addictions and I don't want that to happen to me, and I think restricting it to racing only is a good way to avoid getting dependent on it, and to make racing feel easier than if I regularly ised caffeine.

perusing the first results of a google search about "mormon" dietary restrictions would quickly reveal that caffeine is not a prohibited substance in the religion. LetsRun.com isn't the best place to become educated on world religions.

Caffeine doesn’t help most people race faster. That is a myth.

Actually a proven successful PED that we allow because it isn’t “against the spirit of sport.” Just because you don’t know how to use it properly doesn’t me it doesn’t work.

Yes but this is largely due to a boost in adrenaline in an otherwise non stimulating environment. For elites, races provide the adrenaline one needs. This is a complex subject. I know the studies. I also know the facts, and one must interpret the studies with skepticism due to the context.
