I fly American Airlines almost exclusively, I highly doubt the story that she had priority boarding and yet was asked to check a bag. Priority groups (1-4) are almost all first class or economy plus, with Gold status being group 4 and I think Platinum being group 3. If that photo is hers, she clearly boarded the plane later than group 4.
She apparently has the American Mastercard, which is actually group 5 -- not priority.
These are important details and differences that seasoned travelers know and understand.
