Bump this thread when he takes gold in Paris in the 5000. Also a huge thanks to the Norwegians for teaching us how to train to compete with the east Africans and another huge thanks to the WADA for evening the field on the track.

Seriously? 12:57 is a very long way from 12:45. Moreover, a race for place, not time, is a kicker’s race. Nico has improved his kick tremendously, but even Woody still has a better kick.

Very doubtful and I really believe indoor tracks are faster than outdoor tracks for distance races nowadays.

A 20 years old Norwegian ran 12:48 in 2021 and could probably have run sub 12:40 last year.
So Nico still have some ground to cover.
And if the Norwegian should be absent there are a number of low 12:40 African runners for Nico to deal with IF HE MANEGES TO MAKE THE US 5000M TEAM.

Even Woody? When fit, he can bury Young over the last 400m. Young ran a tremendous race yesterday, but he still got out kicked by a guy that doesn’t seem to have good top-end speed.

Boing boing track adjusted he ran 13.05. Bet the guys who can run 12.40 are bricking themselves
Nico is very strong but cannot kick with the top 5/10k guys in the world. If he is serious about being at the top he should transition to half and full marathon as soon as possible.

The HM is not an Olympic event and the “full” marathon is every bit as competitive as track, at the international level. The only benefit for him from running the marathon is that it would be easier to make an Olympic team.
