hes been grinding out for a very long time and yet to have a truly great race since high school. although this doesnt prove much on a championship level other than incredible fitness and the ability to close a 12:57 in a 27, this race finally reflected his effort. been a long time coming for him and he deserves this one. go Nico!!
Nico been in letsrun eye for years now. Haters say he underperformed at NAU BEFORE THE LAST 10 DAYS. And truth IS there has been some rough moments. But college is suppose to get the best ready for pros. Nico high school phenom and now college record hold. I'm say Mike Smith has done Nico right with all that altitude training tge last 3.5 years. I for one am looking forward to his future as a Pro! Salman too 3:53 today. Haters Sean Brosnan looking pretty good too he needs a pro team.

Every distance runner has been grinding it out for a very long time and Nico is only 21.

What it really shows is how lucky Brosnan was to have the Youngs and Sahlmans at Newbury.
As I was falling asleep last night, I was thinking about how crazy it is that we're seeing all the talent from that school pan out. Lex didn't have a great race yesterday, but Leo came 3rd, and I wanna give them at least through outdoors, because Colin looked bad until like April last year.
Nico just arrived as one of the best in the US. Colin made a statement with his 3:53 win. Aaron PRed in the 400 a few weeks ago (after an XC season). It's still early, but now I fully expect them all to be at the 2028 Olympic Trials. 5 guys from the same high school team. I also think the twins senior year proved that they are not the most talented runners, and that Brosnan wasn't blessed with 5 generational talents. Certainly great talents, but for the twins/Aaron's first 3 years, they were outworking all the people more talented than them. They raised the bar for high schoolers, and by their senior year, the most talented kids (Birnbaum) were able to beat them.
Nico has now had 2 of the best coaches in the country for 8 years, carefully developing him, and he's gone all in. That's why he was the guy to run 12:57 in college, even though there are more talented guys than him. Same as Galen Rupp, actually. He started running seriously under AlSal as junior, and 8 years later, he ran 26:48. Rupp isn't even close to the most talented. He had AlSal, Nike resources, and he still lost Footlocker in HS, and didn't win NCAAs until he was a senior. It was the years of consistent training that made him world class.

Come on. Lex ran a 13:35 and many, many great HS runners have run that distance. Bronson was blessed far more than any HS coach in history, in any sport. If Birnbaum had a couple of equally talented brothers, his coach would have had 3 runners comparable to the NP brothers. All Brosnan had to do was not screw it up.
