zach panning not being in the lrc top 5 2023 marathon rankings is absurd

Panning was 13th at Worlds.
But marathon rankings are a crapshoot and I'll admit that. Most of these guys only ran one race. How does a 2:08 in a rabbitted race in good conditions in Chicago compare to a 2:11 in a championship race in the heat of Budapest? There's no right answer. I gave the edge to the guys who ran faster but obviously Panning could have run a lot faster than 2:11 in better conditions.
Where would you have ranked him? I don't think he can be above Mantz or Fauble but there's an argument for having Panning anywhere from #3 to #6.

They don't have to be a "crapshoot" if you have a legit method with robust tools for analyzing performance.

WC/olympic finishes lose a lot of value for people who weren’t racing for medals. Too many drop outs/jogging it in when there isn’t anything on the line when talking about finishes outside the top 10.

This is crazy, honestly. 13th at worlds in a 2:11:21 and he's automatically put on a pedestal? He is on the B team. That’s the whole reason he ran at worlds. Our best runners didn’t opt to run at worlds.
Jared Ward was 6th at the Olympics in 2:11:30 and we all know he’s not the best in the US.

I was most surprised by Fauble’s number 2 ranking.
Also, assuming he finishes in the top 3 at the trials, does Fauble have a WA approved sub 2:11:30 if he doesn’t qualify by World Ranking and doesn’t run sub 2:11:30 at the trials.

he was #5 in 2022 right? his worlds performance was very impressive. it's almost like his 13th at worlds in the heat meant nothing

agreed. people should care about worlds for the marathon but they dont.

I think Kamworor did enough to get a place in the ten. Second in London ahead of Tola, Leul, and Tura with Bekele not able to get to the 30k marker

It's still a marathon - which means there's dozens of things that can go wrong with any number of runners, even the ones you consider locks.
Also, do you know where I can pick up a Robust Performance Analyzer 3000?

Stephen A Smith has at least one ridiculous take a week. Why? It draws attention to ESPN and it gets people talking. Same thing here. I honestly don’t believe that these guys are as ignorant to so many situations as their takes but they need to bring eyes and dollars to the site.
