In the end, I do believe it'll be a fast race. Maybe Klecker will be willing to lead a few laps after 1618m?

Ernst has run 3:53 for the full mile just last year. He should be able to tow them through the first mile in 4:01-2. It is expected he would drop out around then, and making it to 9 laps or 10 laps would be great, but a bonus in reality. I doubt there would be a second pacer. What you have to remember is that this indoors, so you can hammer without wind. If Klecker has designs on setting an awesome PB, he could keep it going for 3-4 laps after the mile. It's reasonable to think at that point Fisher could want to keep it going and push from 6-800 out in a bid to drop Kerr/Beamish/Robinson/Teare who are all dangerous kickers. Yihune I've also seen can be overaggressive, so it's possible he will keep it going after the pacer drops, even if that just means he'll get rolled the last 2 laps.

Even if Ernst was in HS last year, using “full” is kind of dumb.

Honestly don't know why I typed it. I grew up racing the mile, and the 1600 is a made-up event. I regret whatever subconsciously caused that.

Morgan has prepared for 5 years to beat Grant here, after losing to him in the 2019 Millrose 3k. I think he's got a good shot.

Same. Also surprised Parsons is in this field. The rest of the field is much higher caliber. Would be ridiculous if they selected him over Luis.

I know Kerr is the big name but Grant’s PR over 3k is 7:25 (outdoors) vs Kerr 7:33 (indoor). Kerr is likely stronger than he was a year ago but I don’t think it’s too out there to say that Grant should be the favorite.
