This is wild, isn't it? Both cases: 10.000m track and 10km road. The kenyan ran 27'52" the last 10 km of a marathon, while it's unknown what the numbers of the norvegian are in this distance.
gonna put my money on Jakob. there isn't really any evidence on either of them to help figure this out though. I believe jakob can run 26:30-40, but maybe it's a distance too far. I don't have faith in Kiptum's track speed without even seeing a really good half time. As far as i can tell he's just a freak who can hold close to his top speed for a VERY VERY long time.
Jakob is not getting anywhere near 26:00. He has shown nothing to indicate that he can run under 26:30.
26:0x could be possible. He’s a 2x world champ at 5k and had to beat multiple low 12:40 guys
No it is not possible. Jakob will NEVER run under 26:20. You guys have rich fantasy lives. Maybe you have no experience with this sort of thing. Mo Farah also beat many 12:45ish runners, and yes Mo could have run 26:35 or so, but we know he never did.
Narve nordås mentioned that Jakob (in september 2020) ran his 10 x 1 km at 2.40 pace with 2.0 in lactate.
it seems like a pretty strong indication to me….
that right there is why i feel like he should train to pull of the 2004 ElG move. 1:45-1:47 first 700, and then without being anywhere close to lactic, just rip off a 1:46/7 final 800 to beat down the field.

Kiptum, like other human beings, needs to be capable of sub-26:30 to run 2:00.
This is likely correct. Physiologically I'd think to run 2:00:35 by yourself basically the whole way you'd have to be in 26:00-26:10 shape in the 10,000. Jakob I feel is too heavy to run that pace that far.

What has Cheptegei run? 26:11. Hasn't Jakob handled him rather easily in 5k races?
