The Spanish State Anti-Doping Authority (CELAD) has covered up, lost, or filed without action or consequences several hundred doping violations, according to Alberto Yelmo, former advisor to the Authority.
Five of the violations concerned Patrick Chinedu Ike, a Nigerian sprinter who became a Spanish citizen and ran for Spain. More than one of his samples contained Nandrolone, but the tests were secretly set aside without ever pursuing consequences. When confronted more than four years after his first offense, Chinedu Ike said that the doping substance was to combat his asthma. The sprinter also has five violations of his biological passport somewhere in the files of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Sport. Needless to say, no one is taking responsibility for these screw-ups.
Ana Muñoz, former director of the Anti-Doping Agency said that, of 5600 doping control
reports, 851 had errors that disqualified them and they were thrown out. There were 93 agents who produced the faulty reports, and several had close, personal relations with the athlete(s) they tested.
