I would talk to your coach, don’t be afraid. It’s the coaches job to deal with the burden of following up properly. I know a guy & girl who are cheating, they run for a big time school, both raced at NCAA’s this past fall. I don’t think they’ve ever been tested through the NCAA. It’s the way it is man, they also know how to get by tests at their international races. Best of luck!

Thanks for the serious response. Do you think they'd look into it even if my teammate isn't that good nationally yet? Don't want to be too specific, but their best track performance last year was between 1000-1100 IAAF points. They had an improvement of 10+ seconds per mile in each event. They got even better in cross.

I just want this teammate to get tested and either level the playing field or deter them from doing something stupid. If I tell my coach is he required to report it?

I would say it's not your business what's your coach and authorities will do with the information. But it's the right call to try to nip cheating in the bud.

College is full of cheating and drugs are easy to get on the internet. Mid pack doping is easier to get away with. Remember that even if they never get caught, the cheater will pay for it ten times over with health issues later on. Try to think of it like an eating disorder or other mental health struggle. No one does that to themselves if everything’s ok.

College distance running = prison rules. Snitches get stitches. If you say anything to anyone, your next trail run with the team could easily turn into the "squeal like a pig" scene from Deliverance... and Burt Reynolds won't be showing up with his bow and arrow to rescue you.

You must be new here. Who do you think is providing the PEDs? We have regular news of coaches getting caught doping their athletes. If he goes and talks to the coach, he won't be leaving the locker room conscious.

I'm reporting her to the anti doping agency in her home country (yes, I'm on a women's team, I left that out trying to avoid LRC snark which I got anyway). They allow fully anonymous reporting through a chat and give a case number to check back. Safer than dealing with ncaa coach and teammate drama. Only drawback is they'd publish her name after a positive test which is harsh for her age.

I appreciate those who attempted to be helpful. The rest of you, thanks for reminding me why I never post here and why no one takes college doping seriously. I hope this is at least helpful for anyone going through something similar.

The percentage of serious responses here was pretty decent compared to many threads. Plus you only gave it a few hours.

Sex is not much of a significant fact to leave out - who cares if it's a man or woman. However, the runner's status as a foreigner while possibly doping and taking advantage of the US college system is much more pertinent. Risking being banned AND deported AND losing a potential degree.

It's slightly possible the steroid has a medical purpose even with the unlabeled packaging. But unlikely.

What I don't get is:

Why anyone here, OP or otherwise, considers this remarkable. NCAA is a juice-fest. This is not news. A complete lack of testing and rules leads to a wild west situation. Which leads me to:

Why anyone thinks, USADA, WADA, USATF, or WA have any objection or opinion on this....or will do something about it. Is the person in question a member of any of WA's member organizations, which is to say, a national federation? Well then, their rules don't apply.

I am not a member of any federation that answers to IOC or anyone that formed WADA. I did not agree to be tested. I do not provide my whereabouts. They don't care what I do. I don't care what they think. Unfortunate though it may be, collegiate runners who haven't joined USATF or their own country's equivalent don't either.

Look at these organization's charters. Various federations agree to abide by these rules. The reason Lance was breaking rules is that he was a member of USA Cycling, which is member of UCI. UCI answers to WADA as do all Olympic federations. FIFA does. Premier League and La Liga do not. Nor does the NFL. The Tecumsah Turkey Trot does not....and neither does the NCAA. Neither USADA nor WADA has any authority over them and therefore none over this runner.

I'm not applauding when I say this. I am not saying I'm in favor of this doper continuing unimpeded. But only individuals under the IOC and WADA umbrella are subject to their rules. Maybe the NCAA should change this and form their own doping control system. They'd have to make and enforce their own rules since they are outside of the international governing bodies. Until then, the current situation won't change. That does not mean it shouldn't.
