I have talked to some guys who race against Daniel Simmons, and they say he runs 90 miles per week. Does anyone know if this is true because I always thought American Fork runners did 60-65mpw. Either way mileage is an individual thing. Just curious if he is actually doing this much if anyone knows. I think he could go for the national record in the two mile but only time will tell.

Some runners have done high mileage in high school such as Ritz who did 90mpw in high school, but I just don't think it is smart. Also I don't understand how Danny is running so fast while being vegan on 90mpw.

You know who else off the top of my head hit 90 mpw in high school? Jakob Ing, Jim Walmsley and Ritz. All of which improved after highschool.
Bro Jim Walmsley is an ultra marathoner how does that apply to an elite track/cross runner. How does he progress from here 100mpw as a freshman? 140mpw as a senior in college? He can succeed as it does depend on the person, but he might have tapped into most of his potential by now.

Hypothetically, if he’s running 90 miles per week with 70 of those miles at an easy 7:30 pace and in 4 years he’s running 90 miles at 6:00 pace at the same effort but with harder workouts, you think he cannot improve tremendously?
60-65 miles was considered high miles in the 90s. People thought anything over 35 you were toast. All that did was create an uncompetitive generation of runners.

He currently runs probably 6:30 pace and 7:30 for him would be waking effort.
i agree with those saying to look at the global perspective. while i've never had a runner even close to 90 in a week (60 is a HUGE goal), I don't think it's a problem for somebody who commits to running at an earlier age, year round. that said, the upside isn't going to be as high as it would be for most in the 40-60 range.
you can still improve obviously, but the improvements come in seconds, very slowly, not minutes.
and none of this matters as far as the thread topic is considered, since coach mostert came in to give a first hand negative to it.
Why so pessimistic? A certain Norwegian that ran that mileage and probably more at that age, and is a better runner 5 years later with some WRs and gold medals

My HS coach lived on a farm his junior year of college, and the family they stayed had gone vegan because the wife had gotten cancer or something. That was the only time in his life he was vegan, and he ran his best times ever that year. He wasn't sure that the diet was the only reason, but he was sure it had some impact.
Honestly, so much food today has so many additives that going vegan might mean you just eat way healthier than anyone else by default. Not to mention that until the last 2-300 years, every human ever ate a diet mostly consisting of plants, and we evolved to be long distance runners, so maybe a vegan diet is just better for runners (unless you have a dietician and private chef making all your meals like Josh Kerr or something).
