Just when everyone thought WSU AND OSU were the losers in this pac 12 debacle…. Cal joins the ACC… like east coast schools… and joins for free.
meanwhile WSU and OSU retain hundred of millions of the pac12 money that was supposed to go to the 12 schools… but they left so they lose it and it all goes to OSU AND WSU. Mean while Cal loses again.

Cal panicked because the big12 and big10 rejected them and made a horrible decision to join the acc. Their students can design quantum computers but their faculty couldn’t figure out this is bad.
Not only did they not get anything from the settlement you linked in, they only get 30% revenue share. So if Clemson gets $30m revenue share, Cal gets only $9m!

And now they are stuck in the acc… I have to imagine there is a penalty for them to leave which they definitely can’t afford so they probably can’t even come back and join the new PACwhatever when it happens… brutal
Cal’s Only hope is the lawsuit to dissolve the acc filed I believe today by FSU. ESPN has abused the acc and is the culprit, not the acc itself. But the acc did sign a contract with them so bears some blame. If ESPN would share some of the billions, other schools would join.
if I’m a recruit… and I’m not anymore, I’m a distinguished alumni, but if I’m a recruit in a travel sport. Why would I go there? Anyone? Why would you choose Cal? The only answer is a lower tier recruit who would be deciding between Cal and Sac State.

Unfortunately for Cal, they are not getting a huge cut of that money. The money they get will barely cover travel.
But you have it all wrong. This is the NCAA loses again. They have lost their grip to Television Money. Television Money running college football and basketball does not sound like a good means of creating dynamic competitive sports. There needs to be some rules, revenue sharing and oversight. Of which there is none. In essence College Football and Basketball losing again. Can't stop losing.
As for other sports, it is really not the same. The landscape is evolving and so will these other sports to likely more of a regional model (like they do in Cross Country).

Cal ignored their sports programs since it became the P12. Cal asked the b12 to join their conf and they said no thanks. The prize univ for the b12 was not CU but Utah! How is that possible? Utah>Cal? Cal has access to 5m people, Utah has 1m. Utah gets recruits, 2p12 titles and cal a bottom feeder. No excuse to ignore their sports for now 9 years. Analyst have stated because Cal neglects sports they would drain money out of the b12.

for sure-if I am Wake or BC I'm not complaining--they will take conference socialism all day; That's why only the big hitters like FSU and Clemson were wanting to break the grant of rights-the other relatively small schools had the long-term security until 2036; more surprising is how Stanford panicked and jumped over to the ACC so quick with Cal and SMU; Larry Scott and Kliavkoff are easy to blame for this but ultimately the buck stops with ADs like Bernard Muir that initially stood pat assuming that the PAC would stay intact...then decide to get a bad financial deal land in a conference 4 hours away; the Arizona schools actually won out in my opinion compared to Cal and Stanford; beggers can't be choosers...

Yes, this was 100p cal and also Stanford (I think they should have just waited it out, they have tons of money cal kinda had to make a snap decision since they were so broke) just felt like they were above mwc and for that matter wcc and what’s funny is cal wouldn’t win a conference championship in anything wcc (maybe waterpolo) sponsors and prob only swimming in the mwc… Stanford is really good at Olympic stuff and would do well wherever. Cal will be a great moderately competitive overall program in the new pacwhatever if they can get out of acc.

Yes they should have waited it out, especially since San Diego State and 3 other MWC schools were desperate to join the P12 (but couldn’t because of a $10m exit fee. The MWC tv contract ends next season so they could had 6 schools, 2 short needed I believe for a conf. They would have 1 1/2 yrs to find those two presumably from the WCC?

Question on streaming: did this ultimately cause the downfall? I heard in 10yrs this will be the norm but it was too early and no-one wanted to be the “guinea pig” to see if it would have worked. Any thoughts?
