update, his college 5k pr was 15:17 but it would seem that was among his weakest PRs so it's a bit misleading. Nevertheless it's a heckuva improvement and I'm still curious to know how to pronounce his name
Looks like all his racing since college has been in Europe. He is on strava and insta. This was the best race of his life by a big margin. He runs a lot of the big events in western Europe and has always been a respectable also in the field type of guy. He also competes in some of the serious trail races in Europe.
I heard he was recruited out of a smoothie king based off of calf fitness alone.
Tell us more. I love a good calf story.
He has/had 1:53/3:51/4:12/8:20 credentials in College. Very decent leg speed. No reason he can't progress to 2:12:00 or faster in future. Many slower guys running faster.
Wow there is a letsrun forum about me that I did not even post :)
My name is pronounced (Tee- Roy) real name. It is true I was "recruited" from a Cafe I worked at despite never running in high school. Maybe it had to do with my calfs but more likley because I told the coach that I recently ran a 73 minute half marathon and he really just needed bodies.
I went from never running orginized to doing 100 mile weeks that first year of college. fastest mile pre college was 5:12 and i ended up running 4:12 that season indoors. The first mile of my first XC race was 4:4x (so faster than I ever ran before). my first ever track race was at the UW preview where I ran 8:21 for 3000 which happened to be a school record. I know weak for a d1 school record but it counts none the less.
I only ran one real season in college most of which I was injured and then my coach was let go. I started the next season but did not like the new coach. I probably would have ended up with better PRs to my name in university had i continued running like in that first year. Now I live in Switzerland and I try to compete with the sub-elites here. in marathon training i try to run 100+ miles a week with one hard workout, a race (which you can do every weekend in Europe no problem) and a long run. In college I could have run faster but hope to be able to get down to 2:12 under 2:10 is probably beyond my genetic ability.
another anecdote about me: I am 6´0" and 187 pounds. Race day in valencia I was probably only 183 but I am and always have been heavy

Come on. Not having enough talent is a reason he won’t run 2:12 or faster. 2:16 is a very impressive time for him.

It would have been impossible to immediately ramp up to 100mpw, and 5:12 to 4:12 is equally so.
Without documentation, posts like this have no value. I’m thinking you don’t have enough experience in the sport to spin a good yarn.

Everyone thinks talent and immediately thinks pure speed.
But this is talent right here. Some guys will never have the talent to handle 100 mpw (like a drew hunter), some can do it no problem.
Guys that can run 4:12 are going to be capable, with no training, of running faster than 5:12 in middle school. 5:12 milers do not run in college. That he went out in 4:4X in his first XC race, is ridiculous. And, oh by the way, he weighs almost 190lbs and thinks 2:12 is possible.

Not sure why 420 doesn't believe T-Roy's story. Nothing he posted hasn't been done by others, except they prob had smaller frames. When he was recruited he'd recently run 1:13 for a half - but prob hadn't had many opportunities to race the mile.
T-Roy do you lift or do any upper body work? How did you get into running before the 1:13 half ? Just something that seemed fun?

Just typing something doesn’t make it true.
The last sentence applies to you
Must suck to go thru life as a bitter ugly person
The story is fantasy. You must have no experience in competitive track to believe it’s true. Do you also believe everything a politician says?
