statistically that is a bad performance for a state that has 40 million people. Frankly it’s embarrassing. Especially when there is so much talk about California.
None of the top 10 boys were regional champs. Mud running is a crap shoot. Take the top 50 runners and put the results in a randomizer. That’s what you get.
these kinds of races take skills that must be practiced and strategies that must be implemented. It's very clear that many of these californians lack that practice.
Maybe CIF CA state XC championships should be moved back before Thanksgiving week to give high school athletes a little more rest before NXN and Footlocker regionals. This will give them more than a week to recover from state championship.
San Diego section actually did move the section championship one week back. Unfortunately southern section still has masters the weekend before state and I don't know about the other sections.
There have been plenty of examples of California individuals and teams running well in muddy conditions at NXN in years past. This is a very lazy bad take.
I'm from Mississippi and I can assure you this is not the case, my southern brethren are much dumber. Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cal Tech are all excellent institutions. You have to be highly intelligent to make it in California.
