Excellent point! Why would anyone on a civil servant salary be willing to sacrifice their life for that of a wealthy egotist? We all pretty much agree that anyone in high office is monied, corrupt, and unscrupulous in some ways. I couldn't see myself taking a bullet for Biden or Trump. I would be dead, my family and friends would be devastated, and the replacement POTUS would not be ethically or morally any better.

Are you making the mistake of expecting leftists to remain consistent? Besides, you know as well as I do that a civil servant, elected official, or whoever does the hiring of officers in Chicago might have extreme private beliefs against all cops, but they still have to do their jobs. They might just do it badly on purpose (like diversity hiring instead of hiring for competence) if they dislike police enough, though. See also a similar phenomenon with ex-San Fran DA Chesa Boudin who tried to do his job as prosecutor badly on purpose due to his beliefs in systemic-this, equitable-that, and restorative-the-other. Luckily California law allows citizens to recall and remove DAs and the people of SF did exactly that. That's the son of Weather Underground terrorist Kathy Boudin for those old enough to remember that gang of psychopaths.
