AMES, Iowa – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury has announced the hiring of Alex Gochenour-Brondyke as an assistant coach following her elevation
Coaching is coaching some people are ready regardless of the level and destination. Those arbitrary rules and numbers don't matter at all. There are plenty of folks with one to two years of volunteer experience that land a P5 assistant position and do outstanding work. I think the fact that he is 33 years old with personal and professional experience is something that will aid him well. Sometimes just because you've done it long, doesn't mean you've done it well.

We get it , you love minority hires. From this years postings and the other one you obviously have no idea who or what is and is not a good coach in the college scene, just give it a rest. People call out bad hires of all races and sexes on here, you don't need to ride for a below average one just because of their skin color or gender.
I give congrats to all when an opportunity is extended. You maybe that below average hire to some and I would still say congrats to you, because it's an opportunity for you and it's up to you to make the best of it. We'll wishes to you in 2024, I hope you land an opportunity that works for you regardless what others may think.

I just really think it's time we accept that our profession is about who you know and not what you know. For those coaches complaining about these hires being unfair (which i don't blame you), go to the convention and have a conversation with these director and head coaches and make these connection, it might not be on a personal level but you at least have a name to a face. If you're a good coach it's not goin to go unnoticed but Director and Head Coaches hire people who they can trust and work with.
I will agree that knowing the right people and having a good rapport with them really helps. In this business and every other business, relationships matter. People have to feel good about you as a person and feel like they can trust you. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking a little time to introduce yourself to others.

You're right, he may knock it out the park, but to go from Michelle Freeman to this young man is unexpected. I know the HC is different now, but I was guessing it would be somebody with more skins on the wall.
If it hasn't been announced yet, Bianca Stubler formerly of Wisconsin(athlete) most recently the sprint/hurdle coach at Loyola left to pursue a pro track career. She's been training in Texas with Tonja Buford-Bailey.
Can we all make a resolution not to complain about assistant hires on here so aggressively? A head coach has the right to hire whoever they want, and who will be the best fit for their vision of the program. If you didn't get a job offer, it's not because you were slighted, it's because you either need to network more or your resume isn't as impressive as you think.
People get hired for many reasons, usually it's because they're a good "fit" and not because they are the wisest coach. Head coaches want to mold their assistants, they don't want any of you a-holes coming in acting like they know everything.
