Yes, it's always a good idea to make your boss look like he's both stupid and a liar, especially over an issue that has absolutely nothing to do with your job.
Hey Brody. This is Michelle next door (actually 3 doors) in the complex. This is getting around and really lame of you. Firstly, did you not tell them that Nick is insanely hot and takes care of his body. I’ve seen him run and he is crazy fit. Sound like you’re jealous that he is hot.
I would be upset too if it turned out that literally the only one thing I thought I was better than him in (running), he was better than me also. It's why HE is YOUR boss and you're slaving away at the telemarketing firm while he's out there pumping iron, bagging hot chicks, and STILL dusting you in a 10 mile run.
I was thinking I can do it in a passive way. Like “oh that’s awesome Nick. We should do that run together one day. Would be fun. How about this Monday?”.
I can do that pace for 10 miles. No way he can. I say he can hold it for 1 mile before fading straight to 7:45 per mile pace on the next, and then crawling at 9 minute pace for the next 4. Ultimately I day he gives up at 5.
I want to do it. It’s a telemarketing job. I don’t care if I end up ruining the relationship. He shouldn’t be able to get away with claims like this.
A better course of action would be to take what little money you have an invest directly into personal therapy.
I’m not joking.
This is the absolute dictionary definition of insecurity.
You’re so insanely insecure that some random crossfitter potentially exaggerating his running times that you’re willing to wreck your current work relationship and make things awkward for yourself into the future.

OP you need to prove you are even capable of this. You are questioning someone without proof of their ability, but you can't even provide proof you can do it. Your claim in being able to do it is just as good as his considering you both haven't sacked up and hit the roads for 10 miles.
If you two do have a showdown please record and let us see the results.
Telemarketing is all about speed, and the team won't follow a disgraced leader. Set up a race and discreetly invite the SVP from corporate. When you run 10 miles in 60 minutes and he runs it in 70, you will be the new boss.
A supervisor/boss at a telemarketing firm is a cross-fitter BS artist? That's totally shocking! You'd never guess that someone like that would go into a "profession" like that.
He probably runs for an hour at a hard pace for him and just thinks it’s “about 10 miles”. If he’s not on Strava he probably has no clue how far he’s actually running.
I was thinking the same thing. A guy at work told me he ran 8 miles the other day. I asked him "How long did that take you?" He said "45 minutes". I let it go. Obviously, he had no clue how far he actually ran.
Unless this guy is in your face about it, I would let it go.
Perhaps there's a race coming up? Ask him to run it too. The results will speak for themselves.

Don't listen to the people saying to let it be, OP. If you call him out and he's simply mistaken, well then you've corrected him and he should be appreciative. If you call him out, and he's lying, well then he's in the wrong and should feel bad. If he somehow can actually run this time, then he gets a chance to prove it and it will look that much more impressive. The only mistake would be to let it go and the truth to be obscured.
How come we are glossing over the fact that OP states they are capable of this run also? He is making a claim just as bold as this crossfit boss dog when he says he can do it.
The only way to settle this is for BOTH to actually attempt a run at this time and post the results.
We need an update OP. I had something similar happen at work (I overheard him bragging about his running career back in the day and I was in earshot) and then all of a sudden I heard all of the excuses when I asked how fast he ran as I tried to strike up a conversation. I was actually curious as I figured he and I had something in common... turns out he was just totally lying to another co-worker and he didn't realize I knew my times/distances.
