This isn’t normal.
BU indoor meet charges $100 for a 5k entry. It’s indoors. No t-shirt. No medal. No price money. They don’t even pay good for pacers.
what’s going on?
we shouldn’t support this. It’s killing the sport.

This is one of the most competitive indoor 5ks in the US, I don’t think that’s too crazy. If it’s sponsored runners running, their sponsors should have no problem covering that
There will be over 200 Men and 200 Women that enter this 5k event at $100 a piece. Not to mention the $75 to enter the 3k. BU stands to make a great deal of money from the Season Opener. The track is fast and the market supports it. Build a plywood track and get a piece for yourself
When are the entries published?

I paid my $107 and should have a good chance of beating my 29:35 PR in the 5K. I also raised $37 for charity so I'm making the world a better place.
Remember when some dip s who posts here missed the start of his race?
Supply and demand. To build and maintain those kinds of facilities takes a spit-ton of money. Be glad that BU spent the cash to allow athletes world wide to come get their perspective standards. It was 200 million dollars to build back in 2002. It'd be about 500 million today. Pay your $107 and move on.

I don’t believe that facility cost $200M in 2002

Really? $200 million?? Come again. It was $22 million, $6 million over budget. That was 22 years ago and the track has been resurfaced twice since then at about $500K the first time. I don't know the price of the recent resurfacing. Still doesn't add up to $200 million.
When I first started the Terrier Classic and Vantine meet, I was charging $5 per entry with a max of $200 per team. That was in 1986.

Gabe isn’t getting the same donations he once did, so he needs to make up for lost money supporting budget
This is why you pay so much:

Compared to most running events (dare I say "races") this seems like a great deal.
Good weather. Accurate, fast course. Great competition. No strollers. No 9 year olds lining up in the front. FAT.
Don't need any shirts with 20 sponsors or finishers' medals.
