There's a lot of talk here about how Valby's 3 days/week running won't cut it at the pro level, so what about in the triathlon? She's already cross-training a ton on the days she isn't running and right now that is only to supplement her running. What if those cross-training days were on the bike and in the pool instead, doing triathlon-specific workouts?
Makes sense to me on the surface. Haven't followed her closely enough to know if she has a deep passion for running, or just is good at it.

Interesting question. Being a sufficient swimmer for pro triathlon is not easily acquired- and in many instances, never acquired. Depends on her swimming background, which I have not researched.
Really depends on whether she's got some level of swim and bike talent. Running talent doesn't always translate to the swim and bike.
Yesterday I was proposing this, but on further reflection I felt that the running would still be a problem. Now I am leaning toward just cycling especially gravel.

Yes she should. She was a swimmer growing up... her double days frequenty include a 40 minute swim. And she is tall (5'9") like successful swimmers which will help her. She would probably excel at triathlon.
Her training works well. It will continue to work well. Such a silly question to ask regarding a woman who is poised to break multiple records.
She just completed one is the most impressive and dominant XC seasons for a woman in NCAA history. To diminish this accomplishment by projecting her future lack of success as a professional runner is just a some form of expression of jealousy and lack of respect.
Let's take what she says about her training out of the equation and focus on the end result. She's an NCAA XC champ which is precisely the pedigree that you would expect among a top professional runner/olympian.
How she gets to the finish line is what matters most.
The Triathlon training for swimming and cycling takes time to master, you just can't hop on a bike, there are many technical things to learn.
She will be fine running 3-4 days per week, professional runners for the most part only do three hard sessions per week, the other days are recovery days and they run really easy. So she will be doing low impact training on the recovery days. She should be fine racing 5000 Meters. If she moves up to 10000 Meters at some point it could be an issue as you need the mileage.
give her a couple years. sounds like a good fall back option, but right now she is in a place where she could make the us olympic squad for the 5000 or even 10000
You think I am being disrespectful because you are biased towards running. I never said she wasn’t a great runner, I just wonder if she can be an even better triathlete.
On the contrary, her upside as a pro runner is actually HIGHER given what she has been able to achieve on her current training.

If she can find a pro group that is loaded with resources, she might receive a boost just by gaining access to an Alter-G treadmill, I don’t know. Plus as a pro she’ll have all the time in the world to X-train, prehab, recover, etc.—so it’s no certainty that she won’t make a significant jump in performance. Plus, as others have said she is practically on the level of a respectable U.S. pro already: I believe she can run sub-15 and sub-31.
