That is true. But she will break all of the records and win multiple events. She will win and she will go down as the best NCAA female distance runner of all time.

She's not breaking the mile or 1500m (sorry). And the 3k is a long shot. 5k, 10k possible.
She will have competition in the 3k... Both Markezich and Lemnegole closed the final 3k faster (Lemnegole a lot faster).

Yeah, I don’t see her breaking 1500/mile. But I’d love to see her take a crack at the 10,000m record. I would not be surprised if she took it to mid 30s. She’s got an engine like we’ve never seen from a college runner.

She has a long way to go to be the "best NCAA female distance runner of all time."

When you look at the record board in 5 years and see indoor 3000/5000 Valby and outdoor 5000/10000 Valby, who is a better NCAA dustsnce runnet if she is the best ever in every single event?
Much easier to talk about than to go out and do it. You often only get one good record attempt per season and if anything is a bit off, you get a good result but no record.
BU already up in 2 weeks. Do you get a record or 'just' a nice win in 15:10?
Positive for Valby is she is now a Nike star, so can gain entry to key pro meets, which will help in record chase.
Will be interesting to see if Tuohy shows up at BU. Even if she shortly turns pro, there's no real reason not to use indoor eligibility and current fitness for a good 5k.
3. Those who produce world-class marks (or at least national-class)
Valby can win the Bowerman if she wins the 5K indoors, sweeps the 5K and 10K outdoors, and runs 14:45 and 30:30.
True, but sprinters, jumpers and throwers are much more likely to be winning multiple events AND winning with world class marks. NCAA records in distance are about a minute slower than world times.
I am pretty sure the only runner who competed at 1500m and up to ever win was Jenny Simpson. Even when Abby Dags and Karissa Schweizer won three NCAA titles in one year they didn't win. Bowerman didn't exist when Favor, Kipyego, Huber, and Skieresz were running. I'm sure at least a couple of them would have won it.
Valby would need to pull off the 3K/5K double indoors and win at least one title outdoors to even have a shot. Probably would need to break an NCAA record, too.

Sprinter and jumpers, yes. Throwers, no. A thrower has never won the award.
Last year after national xc, everyone like touhy and Parker sub 1450. Hint neither were close. Parker same shape as last year no better. Touhy obviously not the same this last 7 months now. Atop over hyping times. Parker an incredible xc runner. Not near as dominant in track.

When Simpson won Bowerman, her times were world class and she made us team. Meanwhile pro distance times have improved dramatically but NCAA distance times not so much.
Championship and course record yesterday. Nuttycombe record. She doesn't need more than one shot. I expect 14:50 at BU.
Does XC count toward the Bowerman? I don't believe that it does.
I can see Valby possibly getting under 15:00 in the 5000. I don't feel like she has a shot at getting Uhl's 31:18 10,000 record. She has no legitimate chance of getting a 1500 record either and TBH, I don't feel like she will best Tuohy's 3000 record. Oddly enough, if she were to run the steeplechase, I think she would have a solid chance of breaking Courtney Wayment's 9:16 record.
In terms of the Bowerman, does Julien Alfred have eligibility remaining? If so, I would tage her as the favorite to win.

I hope Tuohy runs. Even if unattached. Orton did that in '21, running 15:08.
