Unless your 1430 shape stay in school
Until you know the difference between “your” and “you’re,” stay in school.
Tuohy graduates in December, unless she wants to pursue post graduate work, why stay in school?
I have no idea what Valby’s status is on her studies and/or her eligibility.
They both still have a full year of eligibility... I guess my point is as a fan wouldn't you rather they stay in school
If they turn pro, and they don't make the Olympic team... where will they be competing... And where will the excitement be
I think there's a good chance that neither of them can make either the Olympic team or the world championship team in 2025
And if that happens they basically are going to have no glory chances until like 2027...
I mean you got to go where the excitement is
Yeah man grammar police, even though you understood what he meant, and could have actually looked at the substance, you made sure all the eyes were dotted and all the t's were crossed
It's like all those dittos we filled out in school they're all so important right... I know the apostrophe there right...
It's not the meaning of the thing that counts It's the bureaucratic... And I know you won't respond to this because you have nothing of substance to add
With EPO and steroids anyone can shine. That is what the pros are all about.
I don't think anyone in that field could break 15 minutes right now...
Touhy has already added a second bachelor's major, technically she was done last spring. Chmiel has added a masters.
With nil available, it's now more about: 1- if I focused on running could I possibly make the '24 team, 2 - with altitude, coaching and focus, how can I most quickly improve and 3 - when is the right moment to sign real pro contract to max out earnings and duration.
Clearly from a standpoint of reaching fans, staying in college is better, as both Touhy and Valby are stars, but in pros will be 'just another runner' at least starting out.
I think Tuohy has pretty much reached the saturation point of how many fans she can reach at this point. 100k instagram followers in a niche sport is wild. Valby makes sense, her star is only rising at this point hope she has some escalator clauses in her NIL deal.
Where else can 1520 5K runners get glory and front page news? The Olympics for either of these ladies is a pipe dream... I'm just saying let's get three more seasons of some exciting drama

Neither one of them strikes me as someone who is desperate for front page news and attention. Tuohy seems like she wants every interview to just be over.
From a fan perspective, absolutely i want college fields to be full of the best runners that are eligible. But i dont see how it makes sense for the athlete if they already have their degree. Unless they get offered less for a pro deal than what they are getting in NIL.
But yet she is endorsing products on her Instagram... I mean she has two NIL deals... I'm not saying she's seeking unnecessary attention... I mean good for her, but I'm just saying it's not like she's a recluse either...
Look the best decision for everyone is for both of them to stay in school...

Strike while the iron is HOT!!! Turn pro and have a great career.
Tuohy blew it by not going pro after her 3000. Her stock has plummetted. Valby should go pro after winning BU and setting the NCAA record.

You might be shocked how many 5th and 6th years due red shirt and grad transfers are completing masters degrees with their eligibility.
Connor Mantz and Olin Hacker were both tenured profs when they turned pro. Marlee Starliper has sophomore eligibility still next year, but almost done PhD.😁
They've both already run 4 XC seasons, 3 indoor, and 3 outdoor. If they want to stick around for indoor/outdoor, fine. But competing for a 5th year is just ridiculous. Why? To try and win another meaningless NCAA title? It reminds me of Bull Durham when "Crash" Davis broke the minor league home run record. It was a meaningless record. Once HS is over, nobody cares about any HS titles. Once college is over, nobody cares about college titles. The only runners America ever knows are the three that are doing their post-race interview after their Olympic Trials race. Not many people outside of hardcore running fans had a clue who Molly Huddle was when she graduated Notre Dame. Two Olympic teams, 5 World Championship teams, several America records later, she is a household name.
I just want to see Valby run below 15:20 for the first time in her life.
When you're number one and a major draw. Go ahead and get that lucrative contract as a major draw. It's the same way I felt after touhy won nationals and it's the same way I feel about Valby now. The risk is you don't know what could happen in a year but injury/sickness are part of the formalities. Valby has negotiation power now so sit down and discuss contract offers. Don't bank on possibilities next year.
That's what you want? I thought you were a Tuohy fan. I want Valby to run 14:50 at BU and 14:40 outdoor. I want her to run 14:20 in a few years.
before you judge people for pimping products on Instagram, I have a friend who's an influencer. the money she gets paid to post a selfie holding a handbag or lipstick is absolutely insane. we're talking 6 figures for a few minutes worth of work.
Tuohy/Valby will make more money endorsing products on instagram than they'll ever make from running. and I say good for them. there's no money for American runners, it's such a niche sport.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
