I think she means that the contingency plan only takes effect if something very unlikely is forecast - like 10AM temperatures of 85, or a hurricane expected later in the day. That's just my guess, though, & her "very aggressive" wording seems unclear.

Its true, she is a masters runner pimping her brand as a hard working mom who juggles a career as a runner. Body positivity and inclusivity and everyone gets a trophy. She will drop out of the trials to save her body for a payday at a major marathon and blame the start time. Her IG followers will all comment supporting her. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Atlanta was the proper place for qualifying for Tokyo, the switch to Sapporo was because of whiners complaining about Tokyo.

I've seen several sports completely die because of "pros" incessant complaining. Marathon organizers could just stuff their pockets with the participant finisher entries and these "pros" can complain all the way to their tent in the park.

I'm not disagreeing with you. The team is legit because that's the way our system works. It may not be our best team, but that is rare.

I think it was 1992 (?) under a different Olympic qualifying system where it was blazing hot and the winner only had the B standard. The USATF/USOC had some agreement with the local organizing committee that the winner HAD to go to the Games.

We only had one entrant in the Games because the A standard runners faded in the heat.

With the predicted temps people were calling for a change in venue to change in that rule so that 3 A standard runners could go.

It was a joke.

It was 2000 in Pittsburgh ,won by Rod DeHaven, who only had the B standard. Similar situation in the women's race that year where only Christine Clark, who also had the B standard won the women's race. Ideally you want the weather and course to be a close as possible to what the conditions will be at the Olympics. Obviously, that is not always possible with who bids and hosts the races, and running them in the winter to maximize recovery time. Sara needs to stop whining and run. I think she will drop out after halfway unless she is battling for a top 3 spot late in the race. Do I think that's likely, no. She is a talented runner, likely one of the better Americans to never make an Olympic distance team. But she is past her prime. Now it's all about maximizing income for her and her family. Maybe she will prove me wrong, but doubtful.
