Different sports in different countries. Shelby received hundreds of thousands of dollars, set ARs, won national championships and ran in the WC and Olympics. The ultra runner received a medal and a trophy.

If Shelby did cheat, her actions resulted in less salary to other athletes, stolen ARs from someone else(s) and spots on international teams. The British lady’s actions did not harm others. If she deserves a lifetime ban, Shelby should receive 4 lifetime bans.

Shelby would've gotten 3 years if she'd admitted fault like this ultrarunner did. So it would be 3 years. We also don't know if it was ingested via the burrito that was simply a long shot theory proposed after they couldn't find anything more plausible. Should the athlete here have gotten more than a year? Probably. But I don't think that means Shelby should've gotten fewer than 3 years. Look at the many athletes banned for nandrolone, and will see how many (if any) outside of Shelby have gotten your sympathy. Or do you regard them as dopers, and their bans good for the sport as people consistent on their positions do.

doping offenses are not lifetime for multiple reasons, including:
a) the tests are not a perfect science
b) i think deep down everybody knows that drug cheating is rampant, and many users are just trying to level the playing field.
hopping into a car during a race is such egregious cheating that is objectively verifiable and in no way is leveling a playing field. it's such a low and indefensible form of cheating. the only reason i can see that it's not a lifetime ban is that you assume somebody who would do it is mentally ill.

Shelby thinks she's innocent because most of the elites don't get popped for the PEDs they take. She feels that she was a victim because she knows she should have gotten away with cheating like most elites. That's a problem.

Correct. Even Shelby's people admitted the burrito story was a best guess, after they claimed they didn't find any of her "supplements" to be contaminated. After that was shown to be practically impossible, they had no other explanation. Just deny, deny and claim the pretty white girl would never cheat.

I mean I certainly don't think it was. By phrasing as "don't know" I didn't mean there was a strong possibility it was. Just meant that the OP is wrong to accept her explanation that as you note was debunked as highly implausible. Highly implausible doesn't mean 100% didn't happen, but it means certainly nobody should have a thread started where they recite it as fact.
