Bosley: "All I wanted to be was a runner,” says Northern Arizona senior Drew Bosley, a three-time All-American who finished third in the NCAA cross-country championship meet in 2022. “That’s really all I’m interested in. Anything that gets in the way of that, I’m not as interested. I’m not saying I don’t care about school. I’m not saying I don’t care about my friendships, my family relationships, romantic relationships – I do. But my job is to be a runner. Plain and simple, I felt like I was going to be able to do it the best here.”
Doesn't he have below a 3.25 in journalism?
I got to the 3rd paragraph and was paywalled.
maybe you misunderstood his quote

Not very useful.
Thank you so much for posting that!
I was skeptical when The Athletic opened up shop, "Another sports blog, really?", but damn are their articles of high quality and interest.
It's nyt journalists - the articles will be of high quality
It is really, really good! I started subscribing within 30 days once one of my college football writers joined.
Good article, I think many coaches around the country preach the same message as Mike Smith but he does a wonderful job of explaining the mindset needed to run fast.
I don’t think he is a mysterious guru, he understands how young people think and it’s afraid to really push the envelop with training.
really good article, though Tyler Day isn't a Kiwi. I think he's from Gilbert, AZ.
Wow, thank you for posting the archived article. Very good article. Worth paying. I may actually subscribe if they cover running regularly.
I love the team mentality of focusing on the job at hand for the group, not on the individual. Smith seems like a good guy.

How do NAU's runners have so many followers?
Disable Java for that site and you will be able to read it.
Awesome article. I would like to further flesh out the NAU coach's fascination with Navajo culture and kachina dolls. It is very reminiscent of an early 2000's Gabe Jennings playing drums. But, definitely outside of the box thinking that works.
Just emailed the author to express how much I enjoyed the article: brianhamiltonwrites at gmail.
I wouldn't compare it to Gabe Jennings playing drums at all.
NAU is just over 20 miles from the Navajo Nation, has many Navajo and Hopi students, and just recently adopted a new Land Acknowledgement statement:
"Northern Arizona University sits at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, on homelands sacred to Native Americans throughout the region. We honor their past, present, and future generations, who have lived here for millennia and will forever call this place home."
