UCLA had been really bad since Larson left. The school doesn’t seem to care about Track and definitely not cross country.

UCLA is behind the curve. You’ll get a better experience at more structured P5. They can’t complete in Football now and that’s that only sport they care about.
It's Hollywood where the Internet, 500 Channel Satellite, Social Media, Super Sonic Airpalnes, Super Bowl, Manned Space Flight, Profitable Olympic Games, Moon Landing, Tesla, Space X, etc. was invented. UCLA only cares about Olympic Medals. UCLA is one of the top 5 in Olympic Medals.

Historically UCLA was seen as the basketball school and USC as the football school. Things can change over time but UCLA is still not viewed at the same level as USC in football so they are consistently outrecruited. In track USC was historically one of the dominant programs and over the last few years they've made a big push. UCLA had a brief period of competitiveness in the 70s and then in the late 80s. Since then they've never been able to regain any traction nationally. USC is about the only non-SEC school that can compete for the top sprinters. I think UCLA should eliminate track , lick their wounds and focus on basketball, soccer, volleyball and be content to be a 3rd tier football school.
I remember back in the 70's UCLA was a track powerhouse.

Those medals are old. UCLA stopped caring about medals a long time ago. Since the 90’s they care about football and basketball. UCLA is no longer a sports powerhouse. Schools have evolved as UCLA went backwards.
To add some balance to this stupid thread...
UCLA is the greatest university on earth!
They care about all sports and have the most intelligent student athletes in America!
(FFS folks... give it a rest.)
"woke" is a fake argument here. do you really think being into diversity or somesuch hurts A TRACK TEAM?
FWIW every school besides liberty and bob jones are not all that woke. you're confusing you wouldn't let them do ANY of that with an actual problem, which few schools have. eg i could pretend my college had an issue or i could pinpoint the english department where it was actually nuts. if they report a single problem or confrontation the school is not rife with that problem, necessarily. people with college degrees grasp such things.
UCLA's issue is gonna be right now they have USC across town better at track, stanford up the road better at track and stronger academically, plus oregon and washington out of state doing well. and all of that will follow them in realignment over to the big 10 which is not bad either.
at least part of their problem, to me, is do you want to run for quincy watts, or do you want to run for........who is UCLA's coach again?

UCLA is not connected and doesn’t understand Track & Field. They hired Avery Anderson who is a UCLA alum from Cal State Northridge!?!?!?
They don’t want to understand Track at all. They think athletes will just come to UCLA for the heck of it. They are also losing top football players to the SEC , Big 12 because those schools invest $$$. I’ve seen others mention it and they are correct about NIL money. The schools who pay the $$$ will win. Track is a sport that UCLA puts on the bottom of their list. It’s a lose lose situation
A wise fan told me: “UCLA football is UCLA football. They will never win their Conference. They will never make the Playoff. They most definitely will never win a National Championship. They’re a mediocre program.” When you look at like that, it’s quite true and saves you a ton of stress. This also goes for UCLA Track & Field.
Every year UCLA fans get to be disappointed by Kelly. Year in and year out. He does just enough to keep the Bruins the laughing joke of the Pac-12. Holiday Bowl reminder. He took a team to San Diego and then told them they couldn't play. He doesn't put in the work. He is the most distant coach at any football camp he shows up to in person including his own. Plus, UCLA is so WOKE! Go to a softball game and check out the kneeling for our countries National Anthem? Megan did this at the Pac 12 playoffs in AZ next year. I took off my UCLA gear.
UCLA has consistently underachieved in many sports like T&F, football, etc. given they are an outstanding school in the center of an incredible athletic talent pool and a nice part of SoCal. I’m a fan of another LA program, but it’s a shame to see UCLA not get results
ESPN Disney in WLA and Fox Sports in Marina Del Rey now control college sports and have re-aligned the teams. So Cal has an overabundance of star preps that fill the national college ranks. So Cal coaches want more D1 football teams at schools like UCSB, Long Beach State, Cal State Compton, etc. Perhaps dual teams at USC and UCLA could fill the gap.

CA accounts for almost 70% of US production of fruits and vegetables. It is the #1 dairy state (not Wisconsin). Or, maybe you don't consider agricultural products to be "real"?
"real" agriculture makes products fit for human consumption, not fruits, vegetables and lactose-filled cow milk.
Vegetables have hardly any calories and aren't food. Edible doesn't mean nutritive. Fruits are nutritive but it's all sugar. Science has finally admitted that's just as bad as processed sugar, breaking decades of Hollywood ad propaganda. You keep your poisons.
I do believe UCLA is not exciting to play for. Their games at the Rose Bowl are 30 minutes from campus with zero traffic and students have to take buses to the games. With traffic many of them say....not today because it's an hour+ to get there...maybe next week. They are ssssoooo boring. I grew up going to Penn State, WVU, and Pitt games when they still had a stadium on campus and they had this QB name Marino. All of those games are WILD. The drinking is insane. The crowd is wild. If a football player visits UCLA on a game weekend and then elsewhere to visit another school....good chance they are going elsewhere if they can.

UCLA was exciting back when. Now you can get a better student / athlete experience at other P5 universities. The lack of passion and quality coaches in Track & Field would be just one reason a serious athlete would never pick UCLA. As for Football I would agree. Why would you want to play for UCLA over other schools that take care of their athletes?
I don’t want to be hard on the coaches because UCLA seriously underpays their Olympic sport coaches. UCLA just doesn’t care. When you don’t care you don’t get results.
UCLA has won 270 Olympic medals - 136 gold, 71 silver and 63 bronze
USC #1, Stanford #2, UCLA #3, Cal #4
Stanford and Cal student are mostly from Los Angeles and Southern California
In Los Angeles only Olympic Medals matter wrote:

They just care abound Football and basketball and failing at that. UCLA lost its sports prestige in the early 2000’s. 23 years later and it’s not the place to be a student athlete.
They need to fire the AD and Chip Kelly ! Unless UCLA gets a complete overhaul it’s going no place soon.
Over the past 5 years UCLA Athletics & USC Athletics took their enormous and world's largest bank deposits endowments and funded Disney ESPN West LA and Fox Sports Inglewood to take over NCAA College sports, The rival ESPN and competing Fox war rooms run 24/7/365 and rake in several $Billions from billions of Streaming Sports viewers across the planet. Funny isn't it?

So what does that mean for UCLA athletics ? They almost dropped certain sports, but got out of a hole of debt because of the Big 10 move $$$
