It’s impossible to focus on Oregon and BTC. It’s just not possible. It’s simple math. It doesn’t work. Oregon needs a full time coach and so does BTC.

Why did they push Jerry to Oregon honestly? He’s even worse than Robert Johnson at promoting tracktown and it doesn’t look like he cares about racing. Dude is terrible for the sport

The men’s distance program at the University of Oregon sucked before Jerry got the job!? When? When Ben Thomas had multiple guys breaking NCAA records in multiple events, winning DMR/800/mile/3k/1500/5k track titles, dominating collegiate running, and making US teams? Is that the time you think Oregon sucked? Because that’s literally the program that Jerry inherited.

Not to mention all of the other event areas that the Ducks were showing national level talent and development in.

This is already year #2, are you saying he has 3 MORE years to turn it around? If the men miss NCAA’s again next year, this thing is a bust. Jerry was the man, inherited a program that was scary good, and it just ain’t clicking.

But, in all honesty, I guess it’s hard to say that this XC season was a failure for the Men, because it was hardly a season at all. If I’m Rob Mullens, the UO Athletics Director, then we’re at least going to have a meeting for Jerry to explain his thought process and plan here. I would assume some of the men’s XC runners are on an athletic scholarship. So they got paid this season to…. what? Race twice, get 3rd at Pac12 and then miss the national meet by an eternity? They could probably pay someone a lot less for that same result.

For what it’s worth, even though the women got an auto bid, I can’t imagine losing to Stanford is ever something the UO athletics department is fond of.

Replacing Ben Thomas was a very questionable decision. But he is probably better off back at VT where he can quietly churn out All Americans with the full support of the athletic dept.

Schumacher SHOULD be a good CC coach, but has not shown it yet at UO. Doesn't Shalane F. Coach the women? So he gets little credit for their success.

This is Oregon. Every single kid on that roster is talented and was one of the best HS kids in the nation. If he needs more than one rebuilding year, as if he needed one, then that is 100% on him.

Oregon's men's xc, with many of the best recruits in the country, underachieved miserably and was not allowed to put forth its best guys once again. Oregon's women auto qualified. That's the difference between Jerry and Shalane. If Jerry actually runs his guys in track, we're going to see much better results because they're much more track than xc guys, but that's also a big if. Harrison will have to compete because he already redshirted. Figure him to run 1:46/3:35. Birnbaum should be there as well if he doesn't redshirt track. Burns figures to run in the 13:20s. They should have some tangible results if Jerry permits it.
