Emily Infeld - PANAM Games disrespect

She'll be moving up to the marathon soon.

Emily and the Bosshard group are simply lame wastes of time and space.

The PANAM Games are as relevant as the airline of the same name. No one should be putting effort into it.

I don't read that much into her comment. Never does she hint at not going prepared, she's just stating the obvious that it is not the normal time for championship track racing. I applaud her for going and giving it a try. As per the race itself, she was with the leaders with 200m to go, but faded, finishing 5 seconds off the winning time in 16:09.

You should be putting effort in every time you put on an international singlet, regardless of the event.

"big shock to the bod"
"off a couple workouts"
"surprised my bod was able to do that"
"first time running a track race since Nov"
"back to our regularly scheduled program of base and strength work"

Everyone of these comments from her IG is pointing to her sandbagging that she is not ready for the race. Whether it is a common time or not is irrelevant, don't take up the opportunity if you're not prepared.

And run a 2:28? There are a lot of marathon women who would put up something better than a 16:09 no matter what time of year the race was run. I don't have a problem with her initial post, but I do agree you shouldn't accept a Team USA slot if you know you're not ready to perform at a reasonable level.

Taylor Werner medaled and earned 2nd, and it was not mentioned ONCE on this message board. So the disrespect begins with you all, not Infeld.

A few nights ago I saw the way it should be done. There were many Pan American Games athletes and medal winners introduced during the NC State/Miami game. The crowd gave each one a huge ovation.

Never heard of a Taylor Werner. Should I be trolling her or something?

Face it, there are many thousands of medals in running. Getting just one medal for a second place in a minor race named after a long bankrupt airline doesn't make you special.

Also, let's be honest: Pan Am games are far from a top-tier competition, and it's an odd time of year for a track event. Most runners are coming off a recent break or are in the middle of a build-up that includes little to no speed work. USATF got turned down by a lot of the athletes they reached out to - mostly because this meet wasn't good timing for the athlete's overall season training/racing cycles.

With that context, there should be no surprise that the results are unspectacular time-wise.
