Hockey player killed on ice in middle of game. Was it a freak accident or manslaughter? (video)

Not something to joke about. Apparently he had his throat slashed by a skate during a game and bled to death.

Happened to Clint Malarchuck in 1989 in an NHL game. He was lucky to survive but traumatized for life by the accident. It's on YouTube but I won't create a link, it's too graphic.

Feel terrible for him and terrible for whoever’s skate that was who has to live with that.

in this day and age there has to be some way to stop a slashed jugular from bleeding out.

yeah I remember Malarchucks laceration--another brutal one was Richard Zednik in 2008 for the Panthers--he had the presence of mind to start skating towards the bench after his neck was cut--due to the quick actions of medical staff he survived-I just remember that their home jerseys were white and it was covered in blood...

I saw the video of the incident on Twitter, and it looked as deliberate as can be. The guy also was banned last year for jabbing his puck at an opponent. The UK police are so clueless they are saying it was the puck that sliced his neck, when you can clearly see in the video he does a karate kick to his neck.

Having said that, I have never played Ice Hockey or even ever watched it before, and a lot of fans are saying it was an accident, no matter what it looked like.

not an ice hockey watcher either but it looked to me like the cut occurred when bodies went flying uncontrollably after a big it.
either way, I’m sure it will be thoroughly investigated.

Sorry, I'll post it if I can find it, but that's what I ready in one report yesterday, probably the Daily Mail.

I watched a slow motion version of the video who somebody I follow on X posted today, and it's 100% obvious now that it was intentional. I mean FFS, the guy had the most sin bin time for fouls of any player in the league, known for his temper, stuck the blade of his stick into an opponent, now does a kick to the neck of Johnson which cuts the guy's jugular. He made barely any contact with the first opponent he tried to 'hit', and this would not cause him to bizarrely perform an acrobatic unintentional kick to the second opponents throat. There are experienced hockey players saying that below the video now. He missed his hit and then lashed out at the poor guy he killed. Apparently there's been a gagging order on all the teams from speaking out about it. I'm 100% certain that this guy will be at least end up charged with manslaughter.

The part that I bolded is what I'm questioning. People are claiming that a hockey puck cut the guy's neck?

Saw that and immediately thought that that guy needs a great excuse why he got off his feet.

Intentionally threw his legs up. Anyone who has played hockey knows your legs won't fly that high on their own. Now I really doubt he wanted his skate to end up in thst player's throat, or anywhere on his body, but he certainly recklessly flung his body up. If there are charges it may be deserved since he's the one who shot the bullet after all.
