Hit up the coaches at Utah Valley, MSU, or Weber.

All good programs with good coaches that definitely recruit in your time pool. You’d make an impact during XC.

Sorry to say but you are not that good at running. You would be a pretty decent, not great, D3 runner.

Go to the best academic school you can reasonably afford.

Congrats on finishing two years of community college and some good race times. You should be in better shape than a HS kid who is starting their college search. You may want to prioritize where you want to transfer to that offers your major, a path to graduation (in two more years) and a good college experience that will set you up for a career after. This could be D1, 2, 3 or NAIA. There are good coaching and competition opportunities in all these. For D1 in Oregon, you could probably walk-on at Portland State, but you might not get any interest at the University of Oregon.

This is a negative, not a positive. He’s two years post high school and has two years left. He may find a place to participate in D1 but he ain’t competing.

But if you think D1 XC at Weber St is a pathway to something, go crazy.

yes you can walk on at a D1 school, chances are very slim at a power 5 conference school (Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC, ACC)

best shot is going somewhere a 25 min 8k is competitive for top 5-7 on their xc team

another important factor are your grades, if you are not studious you may run into academic issues at a D1 institution

Weber is a killer program for what they recruit. Mostly 4:15-4:30 mile types and 14:50-16:00 5k types. Yet have plenty of a sub 14:00 sub 4:10 guys consistently. Their coach is one of the best distance coaches out there. I know him personally and am a huge fan of his team/coaching philosophy. Extremely overlooked program.

I'm in the mid-atlantic. I think GWU and American might take you. American University is sub-4:20 for the mile as their standard.
VCU and Maryland would also work for you. I'm not sure if Rutgers does cross-country.

The first thing to think about if you're transferring from a two year school to a four year is how many of your credits will transfer. I've known of people who have lost an entire year because only about half of their JUCO credits were accepted at the four year school.

There are plenty of D1 runners with slower times than yours. They aren't power houses. You probably won't be going to nationals at any of them but they are in D1. I'm more familiar with the northeast, could give you a fairly sizable list of schools where you'd be welcome here. I can't do that for the northwest off the top of my head. Every school's athletic website shows results from their cross country and track teams. You can see if you'd fit.

Eastern Washington University, Montana, any of the middle/low end Big Sky schools would be an awesome fit!

You might want to look at some of the lower UC schools.

Those are solid high school times. Ne respectable programs will want a 20 year who is that slow akd you should not want to go D1. Find a D3 or NAIA school where you van get an education and enjoy running.

I was in a similar position, except I walked on straight from high school. Looking back, my bottom line is that you should go where you can get the most $$$ and avoid putting yourself in debt.

If you're decent academically, you can walk on to more D1 schools than you realize. A number of them will be looking for kids who are able to boost their GPA (even including good schools). I made solid grades, had solid test scores, kept my GPA >3.5 in college, and walked on instate even though I didn't hit most standards they publicly told kids. I also left with 80% tuition covered and avoided a ton of debt.

If you don't have good grades, this is harder though and you just have to be fast. In that case, you're best going where you're a bigger fish so you don't take on a ton of debt and they'll pay you a lot of money to run fast.

Walk on at Portland State? Good lord. He would be their #1 runner. He has whupped all their runners when he has run against them. Also, I'm shocked anyone from this site would ever suggest anyone run for PSU considering how this board reacted to Jonathan Marcus getting that coaching job.
