I wanted to see if there is something i was missing on this topic. Instead it seems my i stincts are confirmed. Too many snowflakes out there.
Between the obsession with video games, quiet quitting, and emotional security pets among other things it looks like too many cant function in real world and love blaming others.
Real anxiety is hellish.

just read where sydney mclaughlin explains her anxiety as a reason for not advancing in 2016 Olympics. Sure I get it. Anxiety is flat out a normal thing and at one time it was that your job was to learn how to manage it. That is part of becoming a responsible person.
Nowadays it is an acceptable excuse in nearly every instance. It gets mixed into mental health as an issue rather than just an emotional episode that should be manageable. Choking in competition isnt a mental health thing. It is an emotional management thing.
truth is we are not always in “our happy place”. We need to manage those moments and that isnt always easy. Overcoming those emotional challenges is a requirement for life.
this doesnt always mean tough love or ignoring things bit it also doesnt mean to simply allow choking to be accepted as mental health.
Spoken like a trully unaccomplished average person. It's easy to overcome small issues.
Not a single person here on letsrun is qualified to make statements regarding mental health of the stars / elite athletes. We have nothing in common with them and absolutely can't relate. It already begins with the fact that stars / elite athletes do not visit letsrun.
I’ve seen the transition to coddle kids over the last 20 years. Maybe because of the combine school shooting massacre and 9/11? But nevertheless triggers for anxiety were no different before the year 2000. The difference is now it’s identified as an actual issue. Before it was suck it up buttercup.
I do think that issues like bullying needed to be addressed. However, it does seem at times that as a society we use mental health as an excuse rather than holding people accountable for their emotional abilities.

Not exactly on point, but I am reminded of the component of American Idol "auditions" where contestants reveal their backgrounds and sad histories. Of course it colors and influences their image in the voters' minds: the sadder and sorrier the story the more sympathy and votes they get. The judges play along and sympathise. But actual musicians know you gotta shed any thin skin or pleas for understanding when you line up for audition for a real gig. "One take, y'all, and dont talk to the staff on yr way out. We'll call you, if needed!"
I appreciate quiet Psychology and therapy. Period. But there's a lot to be said for learning survival skills and growing a thicker skin, "rolling with the punches." Learn and grow by falling down and getting up all the stronger"is what Granny told me, and I believe her more than some random shrink or cleric or politician.
We are soft and live a very stress free life. People are free to worry about trivial matters, so free that these things become HUGE issues in their minds, but they dont really matter at all.
If these people really had to worry about basic things like food, water, shelter, clothing their minds would be too preoccupied with that to worry about silly stuff.
