Every boys XC team with an average 167+ speed rating

Still don't get Speed Ratings. Why can't they be applied to everyone? There m7st be someone who invented it, but I don't know the name and haven't accessed his/her website. So maybe some of you can answer these questions.

1. What if I'm older than 19? Can I get a SR?

2. What if I'm 17 but don't run for a school-sponsored team? (Mary Cain fit this description once, as did I.)

3. What if I am 17 and race on asphalt and/or Mondo exclusively (no grass or dirt)?

4. What if I've run races on grass or dirt, but never over the 5k distance? (This was once a huge list of folks including Shorter, Lindgren, and me.)

Maybe somebody knows the answers. Until then, the whole thing is a mystery to me.

How did you get all of this to ensure no teams are missing?

Is there a specific spot on the site you can go to with all of the speed ratings for a season?

Or did you just choose the teams you guessed would make the benchmark?

Two Bentonvilles? O'Fallen and O'Fallon? Two Bozemans? Are you sure your list is right?

some teams have two team results from different meets recorded. There were a lot of names so I wasn't always able to remove the slower team time.

it's already been proven that this is the case

American Fork averages 184 speed rating for this season for the highest number 1 speed rating average.

As far as I can tell, you must:

Be 19 years old at most.

Race the 5k distance on grass or dirt.

Run in races where official school-sponsored teams compete.

So, although you might not necessrily have to join your school's program, the only events that count are the kind that school-paid coaches and teams have access to. Since unnatached runners (think NP wearing the club jersey, and not running under a school district insurance policy) can't really go to the events in question, it is a de facto rule that:

You must run for your school's official team (unlike the NP twins who didn't join Senior year). Verzbikas never ran for the school track team - anything around an oval was unattached - but DID don school colors for XC, so he was probably rated.

That might be it. If you do all of the above, I believe you can get a Speed Rating. So if all you do is corporate-sponsored events such as NXN and FL, (that would be 4 races in a month or less - it would be the HS XC equivalent to a Shumacher schedule, which is actually not such a bad idea) I don't think you can. Or that's how I understand it. But I'm just a running fan who reads LRC. Maybe I'm slightly off. Maybe I'm way off. And that's why it is a mystery to some (especially those of us with no coaching, teenage kids, or other connection to high school running) - no one seems to know the exact details.

Lol, just spend some time on tullyrunners.com and read his explanations. It isn’t perfect, but it is useful and fun and not hard to follow.

To be fair to him, I often disagree with his early season rankings only to be proven wrong later in the season. I’m sure I’ll continue to think he underrates the teams I know more about, however.

Love it, I feel like all of these programs treat XC like a real sport and it is great to see.

it is about time that running caught up with football and basketball in terms of competitiveness and taking the sport seriously.

I ran a long time ago and no way were teams this good a so plentiful. The more the better!
