Wow, I had no idea who you were talking about and thought you were being unreasonably mean, even for Letsrun standards. But I found the guy on strava (not hard to search a few of the 2:16 guys in the results)… and he really did say 2:18 is easy. The fact that he doesn’t realize (or doesn’t care) how elitist that statement is…. Just wow

I don't know if the elitism is the most annoying thing; it's the assumption that every other person that's run a 2:12 - or better - did it on a perfect day. You'd be hard pressed to find a single runner that couldn't find some additional obstacle that prevented them from running faster, but most won't hoot'n'holler about it.

If you ran the race, and the time was a 2:16 - then you're a 2:16 man. Excuses are for insecure douchebags.

I thought I was gonna be impressed that this guy finished 7th at Nuttycombe last year, but then noticed it was in the ‘B’ race. His college track career definitely doesn’t suggest a 2:12 debutant, but I guess the marathon is rather different.

1) Who cares?

2) If someone runs 2:16, then 2:18 is definitely not "easy" for them. In the marathon, they were one bad patch away from running a 2:18.

3) If they run 2:16 in their debut, they may very well run 2:12 their next time out. They also might never run faster than 2:16 their whole career. Neither of these scenarios are that uncommon.

Why are you making a thread about a 2:12 hobby jogger? That’s a woman’s time. Any man that follows a decent training plan and a little talent can do that.

Just held off a MASTERS runner from the training paradise of Palmdale, CA. But…side stitch. That’s the sort of excuse that I hear from my JV girls.

Is this one of those guys who races every workout at 4:50-5:00 pace and thinks they'll magically run that pace for over 2 hours of running in a race? I think I stumbled across an instagram video of this person. It's weird seeing people post things making it seem like they're the best there is, but in reality there's literally a hundred other Americans no one has ever heard of who are still faster. Including me anonymously, but I don't care to be known so I'm not out there making instragram videos trying to hype myself up.

The kid from UVU…yep…it’s hard not to dislike him and cringe when you see his posts…you’d think that off of how he acts he’s some Olympic medalist. He hasn’t even broken 28:40. Never made a NCAA XC championship, and made a big deal about “almost getting cam levins riverside CR if he didn’t slow down after 5k” when he ran even splits the whole race AND can levins time was demolished by 10 guys at pac 12’s last year. AND this tool was like 30-40 seconds behind that.

I was talking with a fairly prominent coach at the race yesterday that told me he was interested in this athlete.

I asked if he follows him on social media. He said yes on Twitter but no on Instagram. While we were waiting for the runners to finish the next lap I showed him his Instagram posts. He said “nevermind, not worth the headache”

This guy isn't even a 2:12 marathon runner. He's a 2:16 marathon runner. That would no longer even make you a favorite to win a women's race. There are a dozen women who now run that time.

I agree with everyone who says "Nice job getting the OTQ but please, there is nothing to see here. Just move on..."

I had two training partners who ran 2:18 in the 1990s (pre super shoes) and they never talked like they were "going pro." People need to realize how fast pro running is these days and recalibrate their expectations. Elite men should be running between 2:01 and 2:08. Anything else is sub-elite, I'm sorry.
