As a huuuge Tuohy fan, this gets me excited. I think her first loss to Valby sets them up for an incredible NCAA champs. Same with NC State vs NAU.
Will Tuohy step it up? Or will we see Valby dominate once more? Or will this convo be moot, with Dorit in the picture?
The suspense!!
Valbymania is only just beginning. The domination of front running has put the fear in to the hearts of all who see her tan, gusto, and grit.
Expect Great Things!!!
Wouldn’t be mad at that! Nothing better than seeing a good, even nail-biting matchup!
Both athletes bode well for the future of US women’s distance runners
Last year I thought Valby looked a bit on the to thin side of things. She looked much stronger and healthier today. Will make racing in Va in a few weeks interesting
Valby is poised for the best season in history
Doris only beat Kelsey Chmiel by 12 seconds at Notre Dame. Valby and Tuohy were a lot more than 12 seconds ahead of her today. But maybe Doris didn't go to the well since she had the race in the bag, and could go faster if chasing down Valby/Tuohy. We'll see.
The only suspense was by how much Valby would beat your little princess. And it was by a significant amount. Hey she got second. Mickey Mantle (all-time great) finished 2nd to Roger Maris in 1961. He still hit 54!
A very impressive performance from both today. 19:29 for Tuohy, 23 seconds up on third place, and that would win nationals easily most years. 19:17 for Valby was a dominating performance and very good to see her healthy and at full strength in her first race of the season. NAU with that high quality and depth showed that NC State has its hands full at nationals.
Even better than Henry Rono's season when he set 4 World Records in like a month?
I don't think she competes against men.
...mania. OMG.
This was a faster race from the get go. Last year was modest thru 4k and then kick
Just looking at the splits, it looks like Valby went hard from the gun, put in a top notch effort and came away with the win. She seems to be in a great place compete for and possibly be favored for the individual title.
Hard to gauge Tuohy's performance just on the splits. Obviously slower than Valby but had no problem gapping everyone else. Did she look disappointed and defeated or was this more of a seeing where she is at this point in the season with a heavy base load still and deciding not to play your hand? No one should be peaking for Nuttycombe, but if you're Tuohy, you definitely want to win still.
I think from a fan's perspective, this uncertainty will add to the tension when we finally get to watch them race at nationals. Can anyone not in today's race keep up and make it a 3 or 4 way battle?
calm down little pumpkin I already put out my congrats to VALBYMANIA!
While we'll back of valby I thought tuohy looked ok as she finished pretty strong. No collapsing at finish line. Met and congratulated valby and awaited teammates
I am a Tuohy fan but I don't believe that Tuohy would just "let" herself get beat by that much, she would want to win.
To me, Valby is looking favored for the title after that race.
Lemngole, Olemomoi may be in the mix too.
Lemgole, Olemomoi just ran 18:57, 18:56 at Crimson classic. Pttiming says the course is 5846m. For reference, last year Olemomoi ran 19:40, as a pack run with teammates.
