Kiptum HIMSELF in an interview said hes been coached by this man for about 2 years now. The coach gives him the workout and he executes them. Clearly a good coach to convince him he was ready to run in Chicago.

2) It’s sort of refreshing to see an elite pro runner downplay their preparation before a race and then exceed all expectations. We’re so used to athletes talking a big game, saying they had a fantastic training block, and then underperform. I like being pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.
It's interesting because Renato Canova was saying "oh he's running chicago???" just a day or so before and had us all second guessing or logic. Guess he was on the in and there was some validity to it.

Funny enough I also had a cold and a leg injury the week of Chicago - cold went away by Sat and leg was fine until about halfway but still PR'd. Maybe that's the way to go.

7-2=5 days of extra rest and relaxation. Very luxurious indeed. The tonsilitis isn't a factor in his subsequently breaking WR. Unless he got a tonsilitis 1 day out from the race is a different story.

I agree with you, but I also think it's hilarious that Kiptum runs an incredible negative-split world record to finally supplant Kipchoge at the top of the marathon pecking order...and what we call all of that is "pulling a Parker Valby".

BS I've had tonsillitis and antibiotics take a few days to kick in. Maybe he had a slight sore throat. Zero chance that guy is not on ped's 3 years ago he could not run 10,000m at his marathon pace. He's self coached and this guy is his dealer imo
