It's unbelievable that Kelvin Kiptum could be totally clean in all his marathon performances so far

look at his press conference again, the reporter did a double take and i don't think kiptum lacks english but he said 'no pain at all' or something like that. for me that means no pain the entire race up till finish line

I want to know how long these drugs stay in your system, and how many times you need to take them for you to see benefits. These top people are only racing about twice per year, three races would be a lot. If the drugs only stay in your system a week or less it's easy to dodge the in-competition drug tests. How often are they being tested out of season? If it's only in your system five days after use, and you only need to take it 4-5 times to see benefits, then there's only about 20-25 days you might fail a test. If you're only tested once or twice randomly in out of competition test then there's only about a 10% chance you might get popped. And if your anti doping people are corrupt, you could get a heads up and avoid the test.

i hear you but if kiptum were a doper he isn't going to so magnanimously and afterthought manner tell the press 'no pain ever' in a marathon race. a cheater doesn't have such audacity at all, that's what I'm saying. a cheater would be timid and weak and tryna avoid scrutiny and all. at least he won't be saying what would be stupid statements like 'no pain' cuz that ironically makes him a doper.

beg to differ. Paul Tergat used to be running 280km and 300km in eldoret too and if you bought his biography book he says the marathon is the painful event of his life. so nah, higher mileage dun mean you get outrun your pain in the marathon.

my theory is that in order for kiptum to handle the doping scrutiny when he makes such statements as 'no pain ever' he needs an equal and opposite amount of pre-existing 'purity' of conscience that prescribes no doping in the first place. and that's why kiptum would be clean by virtue of this astoundingly innocent confession.

Why would any elite marthoner have a painful experience?

Your marathon pace is how fast you jog around. The average runner may get exhausted and fall over, but that's not exactly pain.

Elite marathoners are no heavier than birds, so even if they get exhausted (as some visibly do) all they have to do is stop running and they are fine.

You can clearly see that Kiptum doesnt answer most questions well, in fact he misunderstands many of them including the "pain" question.

Hes 23, has had spectacular and CONSISTENT results in both full and half marathons since the start. Everyone who knew him early on said he was incredibly talented. He was running barefoot with top talent and keeping up with them in training runs. So according to you clowns, he started doping at 19/20 and kept at it and developed into this doped up from there on? What a joke.

The most obvious reason hes running faster than previous times by others before him (Kipchoge etc) is the shoes. He can train in them and remain fresh and do more miles. But this is overlooked and the usual crowd starts to push the doping angle.

Too bad the brojos have no respect from clean runners and allows this nonsense to continue so they get more clicks.

Is it really that far fetched that a very poor, but exceptionally talented young adult might start doping to get a leg up on life? Doping in Kenya doesn't seem to be frowned upon. It's more like a normal thing you do to get a good result, get a contract, and then hope not to get caught after the money is coming in. I don't think a single person questions his talent. His talent is unreal, but with the cloud of systemic doing in Kenya, no athlete training there is beyond suspicion. It's especially suspicious to run world records or near world records every time out in an event known for it's "anything could happen" nature.

I wouldn't say this exactly describes my own marathon experiences. All of them hurt to some extent in the final 10k. But... I hurt far worse in my worst performances. My PR race had me accelerating to the finish.

Pain has to be defined. I think a lot of people would qualify their best races as pain-free. That doesn’t mean difficulty-free. What an absolute showing though

He’s probably doping but yeah, this could be down to his interpretation of the word pain. Runners in the U.S. like to describe the suffering that comes from struggling to maintain pace to the finish line as “pain,” but it’s not an acute, literal pain, at least when you’re a 120 pound well trained elite wearing super shoes. Looking at his face in the last 10k, he certainly appeared to be in discomfort.

Beyond the obvious issues of Kenyan doping and Kiptum jumping into Marathons at the very sharp end immediately, for me the thing that really made me wonder was seeing him vs. Hassan after the finish. He looked like he had just completed an easy training run, while she looked like she just ran a very fast marathon.

Look at his shoes. This was my first really good clear look at these new ridiculous trampoline shoes. They look to be about twice the size of a traditional shoe and you can see how far they've taken things in order to guarantee new world records keep flowing in to keep track and field and marathon racing relevant and current times. Very sad to see quite embarrassing.
