It all comes down to who can best prepare for warm temperatures. Racing in upper 40s is a complete different race than running in the low 70s. Everyone does not fade equally.

Sisson had a bad stitch from mile 18 and said she was in quite a bit of pain. I think she has more in her and wasn’t her best day.

That’s worrying about Bates. I know she said she had plantar issues and rolled her foot at the water station which caused her to slow. Hopefully not a stress fraction/broken.

Molly did great. She’s been hitting some high mileage -130 mile weeks so I was worried she be overcooked especially with performances earlier on the year where she just seemed tired. I guess she’s got in top of the iron deficiency and is handling the mileage well.

My usual training routes overlap with Sara's and I saw here doing strides/short-intervals a week ago. Holy crap, she still has great leg speed; she was absolutely flying on those repeats. Keep in mind, this is Boulder so seeing elite runners doing workouts is not uncommon, but hers stood out in particular.

Given that she's 37, I would hope she'd beat all those elite teen U.S. marathoners.

No one is a lock, so I wouldn't say Seidel is a 'lock'. She has barely made starting lines the past couple years, and even yesterday she had her knee all taped up, meaning she's been dealing with something. But she is certainly in the mix. Sisson and Saina seem to be heavy favorites, and then D'Amato/Bates/Hall/Seidel fighting for the 3rd spot. And even Aliphine could make a return, and then some of the others mentioned like Vaughn or Flanagan could be even more of a dark horse if multiple of those top people have bad days. Huddle may even make a return after returning from having her baby last year, she's still trending in a good direction, and the women's standard is only what, 2:29? That can be done even on a little bit of a warm day, it's 17 minutes off the world record after all.

The men with only 2 having the 'auto standard' makes things interesting. The several guys running 2:08/2:09 however makes me think they're close enough that if they run 2:11 or faster at the US championships, getting the bonus points will make their ranking high enough. Didn't Korir run 2:09 in Paris last spring? So he's still technically in the mix still. Along with Simbassa, Futsum, Panning, Rupp, McDonald, Chelenga, and maybe a couple others I'm missing.

Sisson runs well in the heat and on flat courses. Hoping for Seidel to make the team cause Paris is hilly and will be hot, making it a true championship race. Maybe Bates will be better off for needing a break and a shorter return to form so she's not overcooked. But only 3 spots and I would include Betsy Seina as a surer bet than Seidel and Bates. And Keira kind of should be on the team considering she broke the AR.

Anyone know what's going on with Molly Huddle as far as trials? Does she have a qualifier? Flat and hot would be good for her.

How the heck are our best runners 8+ minutes behind the leaders in both genders. Almost 2 whole miles. Random pacers that no one has ever heard of beat all our best dudes by 5 minutes.
