Welteji also had a long season. This result will probably figure more into elevating Welteji's status than downgrading Kipyegon's. A great rivalry may be in the making.

Welteji had an even longer season than Kipyegon because she did the indoor circuit, remember back on February 5th when she stopped a lap early in the indoor 3k but then restarted and ran 8:33? She also broke her PB like three time once in the diamond league, at worlds and recently at Pre where Kipyegon also almost broke the WR again. It just seems like Welteji is getting better and better as the season goes on. So all this shows is that Kipyegon is human and there are youngsters who can challenge her when they get it right.

As Jakob has found out at Worlds, leading without a pacer can make you vulnerable. Faith didn't look dominant from the start. Not a fast course and Welteji stayed in touch (much like Nuguse to Jakob), so unless she breaks away (as she does on the track) it can be a problem.

No. And not everyone responds to the shoes the same. She doesn't respond to the road shoes, but she does the spikes. She's so much better than everyone else- obviously a shoe response issue.

It doesn't change anything about a Faith's season. But it does put her on notice that Welteji is coming and getting faster. Diribe already has a faster outdoor 1500 PR than Tsegay and a much faster 800 PR.
