Alberto Salazar’s 4-Year Ban is Now Lifted. Does He Start Coaching Overseas?

Despite the World Athletics ban being lifted from Alberto Salazar he still has a lifetime ban from Safesport. I believe Safesport is only an American institution so Salazar would be free to coach athletes from countries that do not recognize Safesport. Will Salazar take his coaching talents elsewhere? Can Salazar coach American athletes if the training group is based in another country?

It is a shame he cannot coach in America as our poor performance on the world stage is a clear indicator we need a coach like Salazar, especially for the men’s marathon.

Remember, Salazar has never had an athlete test positive for a banned substance; Schumacher has.

I should probably google this but from where does safe sport obtain its authority to ban someone from coaching across the United States? I do not believe it is based on federal law. are there laws in all 50 states that delegate authority to state associations and then those delegate to safe sport? If I wanted to stand with a stopwatch in Central Park and call out splits to people who pay me would I need to register with safesport? Alberto should challenge the cosntitustioanotiy of it

Weird psuedo-legal talk always comes up when NOP is being discussed. Salazar being banned is kind of like being fired from work or banned from a trade organization. You don't need to do anything illegal to be fired from your job, just don't do your job or be rude to everyone and they'll eventually show you the door. Salazar broke some rules. They just happened to not be the rules that everyone is most familiar with, e.g. directly doping an athlete.

It is wild how he sexual assaulted multiple woman and no one seems to care. It is not a shame he can’t coach in America. Safesport is correct there, even if as an institution they have their own problems.

So, two guys who coached on the same team that was the spiritual successor to Athletics West, the American answer to Soviet state-sponsored doping teams, have nothing to do with each other? We all know they don't get along, that doesn't really matter. I don't really get along with some people at work, but that doesn't mean I don't have anything to do with them.

I thought Safe Sport was just about coaching in a school. It doesn't seem possible that if 2 adults, not associated with any school, want to form a professional relationship, that they wouldn't be allowed to do that.

I think that challenging the "cosntitustioanotiy" of it was what got him banned in the first place.

My friend's a doctor and a resident is about to be booted for having a bad attitude and never getting along with anyone. This guy will never be a doctor, ever, unless he moves somewhere else. Alberto knew the rules and broke them, it's kind of the same. Just like getting disbarred.

Safesport is a non-profit. No jurisdiction. Salazar can do what he wants.

Does Al Sal still have his passport? How well does Al Sal speak Spanish? He should move to Spain and start coaching there. Summers in Spain are never as hot as the hottest places in U.S. Winters in Spain are never as cold as coldest places in U.S.
