Everyone is saying the same thing, and I agree. The only race Nuguse can be in and have a shot at the WR will either have Jake, who will win, or not have Jake, and then Nuguse will be on his own the last 600 or so and I can't see him driving to the record.

He is one of if not the most likable athlete in T&F right now, you have to root for him, he is what is good about T&F on the world class level. I wish him the very best.
Yes, so likable and a great counter weight to Jakob’s arrogance. I’m hoping that Yared will clearly emerge next year as Jakob’s #1 rival and that they will trade races and records and push each other to greater and greater performances through 2028. My main concern is whether or not Yared is too fragile to keep putting in the Jakob level work year after year. Jakob is a tank and seems injury proof. There are other talented guys like Wightman, Kerr, Hocker, Laros, etc who may spoil the party, but in the end, I do think Yared is best positioned to truly threaten Jakob’s dominance as opposed to stealing a race here and there.
I think at the 1500M and 3000M distances Yared may be more naturally talented, however Jakob has an incredible base as he has been training at a high level since was was 10 years old.
I agree with you regarding Yared seems fragile and hopefully the workload required will not be his demise. He has a very knowledgeable Coach, who by the way was extremely talented but a bit fragile once he moved up to the Marathon training.
He started very young so he may not have that much time left to improve ciompared to someone who started later in life--his chances of 3 K WR are better. While he may get the mile, the 1500 m is out of his reach I believe

There’s no guarantee Yared will be in the field when Jakob goes for the WR. If you’re the guy chasing the record and setting up the attempt, you don’t want anyone in the field who might spoil your victory and potentially take the record out from under you.
That said, if Jakob gets 1200 meters of pacing on a still night, I don’t think it’s going to matter who else in the field.

I don’t think the Goose will get it. The reason is not that I think he has peaked. I don’t think that. BUT if he had to run the last 600 or so by himself maybe he runs 3:44.5 or so at Pre. The issue is he will likely never have a better opportunity than he had at Pre, so although he may slightly improve his mile fitness, he may never have as good a set up as chasing Jakob the entire race at Pre.
If his massive improvement is down to only becoming a full-time athlete this year, then surely he has some more to come?

Nice. But is it really talking big if you've run within .8 seconds of the world record. It would be pretty odd if he didn't think he could run a 1 second PB.
not sure what Nuguse being at a JV meet has to do with his mindset that he can break the WR. You putting those two pieces of information directly next to each other makes it seem like there is a direct correlation. THINK MORE before you write, then edit after you write. JFC
I would rather Y Nuguse focus on training for 1500m Olympic gold. That's tougher training and a greater accomplishment than 1 mile world record. It's 2023, 1mi. is out of style.
In the 3:43 effort, Yared was paced the entire way and needed only draft off Jakob. I consider those ideal conditions. In most race situations from now where he's going for this record (or even 1500m), the pacer will drop by 800m and he'll have to run WR pace solo the rest of the way (if Jakob is not present). I highly doubt he can manage a solo WR without a Jakob-like runner towing him.
Jakob is going to switch up tactics and just draft off Yared the moment Yared announces he's going for the record. This exact tactic is what won Jakob the gold 1500m (the 3:28 race).
It's a fair question whether Nuguse will be invited to Jakob's next mile wr attempt, but Jakob is very self-confident, with reason, and does not duck competition, unlike Kerr and Wightman, so I wouldn't be too surprised to see him there. Without Jakob, a mile wr attempt would be a lot tougher for Yared. I say he improves further next season and he might also get Lagat's disputed American record.

Exactly. Anyone his age who is who has come that close to the WR would HAVE to think they could get it. It's hardly "big talk," which carries a connotation of boastfulness. It's completely realistic in light of what he has actually done.
